Things to Do

THINGS TO DO BEFORE FLYING

1. Download the AIRALO App

Cell phone roaming in SA is very expensive. Downloading Airalo and purchasing data ensures consistent connection throughout your trip.

2. There are dialling codes for calling South African numbers

Please place +27 in front of all SA numbers. Using the 0 will not work from European phones.

Cape Town Airport to City Centre

Travel from Cape Town international airport into Cape Town is about 20 min by car, in traffic, can be longer

- Uber is available and safe to use (about R200 one-way = 10 EUR)

Where to stay:

The best place to stay in Cape Town would be in and around the V&A waterfront - good shopping, restaurants, and hotels from expensive to medium range.

There is a perfectly safe walk along the sea front into Green Point, Mouille Point & Sea Point. Sea Point has one of the most scenic promenades on the Atlantic seaboard. it is 11km long - you can hire bicycles along the promenade. Good restaurants here too and more reasonable hotels.

The Robben Island tour ferry departs from the V&A Waterfront to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. this must be booked in advance at www.robben-island.org.za.

There is a hop-on-hop-off bus service, where you can include a visit up table mountain.

You are also able to book a harbour cruise a visit to camps bay beach is also a must and one of the stops on the bus.

For wine lovers a trip to a wine farm can also be booked. Stellenbosch and Franschhoek (45min to 1hr from Cape Town) offers beautiful vineyards, restaurants, wine-tram (www.winetram.co.za) and more!

Safari:

There are a few game farms around 2-3hrs from Cape Town. Bush Breaks helps organize these - you can contact them via their website: https://www.bushbreaks.co.za/.

Hermanus is a sea side town 107km from Cape Town international airport (1 hour 30 drive). It is known for the best land based whale watching in the world. the whales visit between July & November. It is also known for its beauty, nestled between the mountains and the sea

There is a wonderful, well maintained cliff path walk which will link you to some beautiful beaches -Kammabaai in Voelklip is one such beach. It is a good walk (5km) from the centre of town
