Ecclesiastes 3:1 Everything in His timing.
Serving together at church, we did not see each other outside the couple of hours on Sunday each week. One of our earliest interactions was actually, to hear Heather tell of it; not a good first impression by me. Luckily for me, God had other plans. It was quite a while before I mustered the courage to ask Heather out and she happily accepted. Quality time spent together on a couple of dates with good food, laughter, and good conversation seemed to be moving things in the right direction. Things of life, both present and past, however intervened and wisely the recognition came that at this time, a relationship just wasn’t in the plan then. We continued to see each other at church each week, with more interaction there and often outside of church with friends who we now know were likely praying for God to perhaps push up the timeline for us. And He graciously answered. In February I asked several people, including Heather, to go to Winter Jam; a Christian concert at a local entertainment venue. A group of about 5 agreed and we made plans for the event. Before the concert, a couple of them let us know they were unable to make it, leaving Heather, myself, and another friend from church. On the day of the event, I picked Heather up and we arrived at the arena to already long lines. We decided to upgrade our tickets to “skip” the line and be sure we could get seats for our group. Once inside, our friend called to say he would also not be joining us, conveniently leaving just the two of us, thus giving us our second “first” date. Again we connected with conversation and enjoyed worship, which led to more frequent dates and activities with friends, one evening in particular we are grateful for. That evening out with another couple, as good friends should, they both gave us wise counsel on what our next steps should be in moving the relationship forward. I received perhaps a bit stronger and more direct counsel than Heather…which I took. And now you know…the rest of the story. And still in God’s timing which is always perfect, we look forward to celebrating the blessing of our Divinely designed forever with you this May!
