This is the unlikely love story of a city boy from Woodbury, Minnesota and a small town country girl from Spooner, Wisconsin.
Although they come from two different worlds they share a bond that will last a lifetime. A love for the outdoors and all that goes with it.
Matt and Heidi started dating in the fall of 2021 over their mutual love for the outdoors. They loved to spend time together in the outdoors.
Their second date was a grouse hunt together with Mia and Gunnar. Heidi knew this was something that was going to last when Mia and Gunnar responded well to Matt out hunting.
As they spent more time together they realized they also had a love for sports. Matt taught Heidi about hockey and they developed a love for going to hockey games together. Except for when Wisconsin plays Minnesota. Then you bet these two will come up with some crazy bets on the game. Heidi still owes Matt for a lost game.
They spent a lot of time exploring in the summer months together attending rodeos, going camping, having bonfires, paddle boarding, and time with friends.
Matt knew Heidi was the one while they were out scouting for ducks around Forest Lake, MN.
Heidi spotted a duck and yelled for Matt to shoot it. As the light was fading Heidi did not feel comfortable going home to get the dogs to retrieve the duck in the dark. She preceded to strip down to her base layer and hopped into the bog and swam for the duck.
It was then that Matt knew he had not two but three good retrievers and also a girl he knew he would one day call his wife.
Matt and Heidi are a couple that pushes to make one another better. Matt takes Heidi into the cities to experience sports. Heidi pushes Matt to break out of the norm and try new foods.
Poor Matt had no idea that Heidi as a kid had a nack for finding animals and bringing them home asking to keep them.
This flair for helping animals has carried into adulthood.
Their first summer together Matt got roped into helping her rescue two abandoned farm ducks(not an easy task to wrangle ducks).
That next winter during a fishing tournament a kitten found her and she could not turn away an animal in need. That kitten joined them on the ice enjoying minnows and burgers.
Little did Heidi or Matt know that the kitten did not have a home and they would turn out to be his forever home.
They both enjoy the holidays as family is very important to both of them, including their two labs Mia and Gunnar.
While out fishing , their story of dating turned into a new chapter as Matt creatively asked Heidi for her hand in marriage.
Heidi thought she had a fish on her tip up but then realized it was not moving like one and thought Matt was being typical Matt and pranking her. As she pulled out her metal work walleye through the hole and read what was was engraved on it she was in shock at the fish and as Matt got down on one knee to propose.
Goes to show love is stronger than 2 inches of ice.
