Some stories begin in sunlight. Ours was written in shadow, lit by flickering candles and guided by faith in something greater than us. Years before our meeting, Helaina was told by a tarot reader that her heart belonged to a sandy-haired Leo who would love her with an intensity that mirrored her own. She carried that prophecy like a half-forgotten prayer, unsure if such devotion could ever find her.On October 28th, 2019—the Feast of Saint Jude, patron of impossible causes—fate finally answered. In the digital hush of a college writing class, Helaina and Hunter first crossed paths. She, once convinced she was a lost cause in love, found herself face to face with the very soul destined for her.Hunter, with a heart as steadfast as the sun and a gentleness that cloaked an unyielding fire, left behind his native Georgia to join Helaina in Oregon. She herself had already traveled from California, and together they chose Oregon as their refuge—a land not of origin, but of destiny. For now, its mountains and storms shelter their love, though the East Coast whispers to them with promises of a future yet to come of roots they yearn to settle.Their love grew in devotion and wonder, carrying the quiet gravity of cathedral bells tolling at twilight. On December 21st, 2023, beneath the glow of Christmas lights and the hush of winter’s solstice, Hunter knelt on the ground and asked for Helaina’s hand. Surrounded by friends, she said yes, her heart overcome with awe at the miracle before her.On February 29th, 2024, there was a ring, a vow, a kiss—thus their saga spun anew—they bound themselves to each other in marriage and a promise in God’s eye to continue to cherish each other until the last grain of sand in time's hourglass falls. It was a day outside of time itself, chosen for a love that transcends expectation and once solemn woes. To this day, when Helaina gazes into Hunter’s eyes, she sees more than affection—she sees eternity. To him, she is the sun that lights his skies, the breath within his lungs, the smile upon his lips. To her, he is the quiet strength, the sacred vow, the home she’s always been searching for.The world may call them wanderers, but wherever they go—whether Oregon’s stormy coast or the beckoning East—their truest home will always be each other.
