Jason and Helen's Story

If you asked us when we first met, we'd tell you different stories. I remember meeting Jason in May 2018, the first Sunday I visited Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. A group of young adults went out to lunch after the 11am service. I remember walking with Jason and my friend from PA school, Sandi, who was also visiting the church. The 3 of us walked about 5 blocks together casually chatting. He stood out to me though because he was wearing a Westminister Seminary t-shirt and Chacos to church. All the other men were wearing button downs and ties or at least a golf shirt. I remember wishing I could have pulled off that look at Tenth as well as he did. However, I don't remember talking to him again until March 2019...   Jason first remembers meeting me when I walked into the church building looking for a small group that was recommended to me. He was the only one from the study waiting in the common area. We made casual small talk while waiting for others to arrive. I pretended like I had never met him before because clearly he didn't remember meeting me before. Turns out he led that particular small group.   Jason's kindness, wisdom, and the way he humbly led was evident from the start. Honestly, he was a little intimidating because of all of his Biblical knowledge, not that he was flashy about it at all-- I was just impressed. Jason kind of took me under his wing a bit while helping me acclimate to the new small group and get more involved in the church. However, a month or so after I started attending, his job led him to be in NY every Wednesday night, so he stepped down as leader/attending the small group.   We saw each other at various young adult events at church, caught up some here and there, and hung out in groups. He told me about purchasing a power drill to make a contraption for the church tubing trip. When I moved to a new apartment in Philadelphia in early September, I needed to hang my curtains. I Facebook messaged Jason asking if I could borrow his drill. His response: sure I'll help you hang your curtains. The following Sunday, he came over, helped me hang my curtains, and we talked in my kitchen for hours. When he started to leave my apartment, I said See you Saturday since there was a church event that day. He replied How about Tuesday?. I said out loud...Ummm what's happening Tuesday?. Jason shrugged and denied there being a church event. After a couple awk seconds of my mind moving so slowly, I understood he was asking me out.   Our first date, he took me rock climbing and out to Tex Mex. With that combo, I basically knew he was the one (kinda kidding). But actually, that evening Jason asked me What is your ideal meal? I told him steak and asparagus on the grill. He leaned a little closer over the dinner table and said Marry me.   The rest is pretty much history. We made our relationship official October 8, 2019. I would say we fell in love late May during a pretty intense hike in the Adirondacks. It was 14 hours of hiking through some tough terrain, running out of water, and trying to beat the sun going down (the sun 100% won). Jason kept so cool, encouraging, and took care of the group. Of course I knew his character was outstanding, but my respect grew tremendously that day and I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him. Later when reflecting on that particular trip, Jason said he came to the same conclusion while hiking that day.   Engaged October 10, 2020 on the top of a mountain. And excited to spend the rest our lives adventuring, cooking steak on the grill, and following the Lord as a team.

I've gotten over the fact that she used to make me pay her 1$/15 minutes to play with her as kids. Sisters, yes. Best friends, absolutely! She is constantly there in my time of need, encouraging, a good listener, a kind soul, gentle, and loves the Lord dearly. If you get the privilege of meeting her, you'll know that her joyful spirit and warm laugh are infectious. 

Also find her eating sushi, enjoying the beach, taking long walks in Beverly, MA., listening to podcasts, eating kimchi-goat-cheese- burgers, and watching G rated films on the reg.

CRAZY that my baby sister became my best friend. This girl is wise beyond her age, intelligent, caring, hard-working, talented and HILARIOUS. Sophie lights up a room in an instant since day 1.  Beyond all she does as a 16 year old, she has a heart and character of gold. She impresses me every day. I love every giggle, baking session, walk around the block,  and heart to heart we share. 

Also find her doing hours of AP Gov homework, playing field hockey and lax for her high school, lighting up the stage with her crazy singing and acting skills, baking up a storm in the kitchen, dropping some witty come back, or binging the Office for the 5th time. 

Sophie Collins

Rewind to 7 years old running around the church pretending to be characters of whatever cartoon she was into that week. LeeAnn and I grew up together as family friends and share so many wild childhood memories. The two of us made this nasty, giant, Hershey Kiss cake for a church auction.  I really hope no one remembers what it looked like...or tasted like. LeeAnn has become such a close friend over the years. She is fiercely loyal, self-sacrificial, and the type of friend you know would do ANYTHING for you. She has the biggest and kindest heart; constantly doing something for others. Also find her playing video games with her hubby, reading a comic book, living a sunshiney Florida life, howling at her dog Ashe, and being the hottest nerd alive. 

LeeAnn Dean

In middle school, people thought it was SO FUNNY that friends with rhyming names were constantly walking in the hallways together.  Aside from 6:45am choir rehearsal 3 days a week throughout high school, being wildly silly during class together, running together, trying to convince her Twilight was a quality film (big yikes), eating bags of Starburst in one sitting, our friendship grew deeper and more steadfast as time went on.  It's kind of hard not to be best friends with Kellen. She asks the right questions, cares deeply, is thoughtful, wise, inspiring, and someone who constantly points me to Jesus. I really have no idea how I would have gone through some challenging things in my life without her support, love, and advice. Also find Kellen being the most patient teacher, rolling her eyes at her mischievous cat, taking long walks, being the most French non-French person I know, enjoying nature, and seeing beauty in the little things.

Best friends since 6 years old. Sliding down slanted closets, watching movies at 6am after sleepovers, getting PUMPED for Hilary Duff in concert in 2003, trips to Maine, and countless games of hide and go seek. But our friendship did not stop in childhood; McKenzie is a life long friend who I know will be around for the long haul. McKenzie does the hard work to seek Truth, stay accountable, and remain faithfully seeking the Lord throughout the toughest of seasons. I have mad respect for this lady and the way she cares for others and shines with constant joy. Also find her loving on her dog, Atticus, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, ordering her daily Medium Hazelnut Dunkin Iced Coffee, laughing, laughing, and laughing a little more. 

McKenzie Severe

If I could talk to someone for 16 hours straight, it would be this one. Natalie has always been a "kindred spirit" as one might say. Even from our awkward middle school days, we had a bond that 100% could not be broken-- with time or distance; and that has definitely remained true. The two of us definitely marched to the beat of our own drum in high school and had a blast doing it. Natalie has a beautiful heart. She is unhindered, always herself, and a constant light. Also find her studying Austrian Economics for funzies,  backpacking all over the West Coast, making guinea pig mazes out of cardboard for beloved, Phyllis, creating a beautiful piece of art, or casually riding horses bareback.

Who knew that the girl down the hall my freshman year at Gordon would become one of my best friends. We were 18 year old babies galavanting around campus, laughing till we cried, waiting for the fire alarm to stop blasting at 1 am outside. Who knew that God would bring us back together attending the same church in Philadelphia years later. Kate is authentic, seeking Truth in all aspects of life, and has a the most empathetic heart.  She points me to Jesus every time we chat. Also find Kate wearing amazingly colorful makeup, painting GORG pieces of art, sipping a G&T, and nerding out over Harry Potter things like a real homie.

Objective fact: would not have gotten through PA school without this one. Despite the two of us feeling like death every day, there was never an 8am class that she did not enter saying "moRRRRRRRning". In one of the toughest years mentally and emotionally, Sandi was there right by my side: laughing, crying, taking long walks, almost dying on a pretty dangerous hike (lol yea that was me and Jason's bad... sorry Sandi and Rick). Sandi is a humble leader, a low-key genius, and cares deeply for her friends and family. Also find Sandi sipping on Old Fashions, walking through Wissahickon, convincing easterners of "West Coast Best Coast", and watching hours of Mad Men or the British Bake Off.

The biggest unexpected blessing in my life right now. Hannah and I barely knew each other before I moved into her home in Philly together, but in the shortest period of time, she's become one of my best friends! Hannah impresses me every day with her literal golden character. She is so unassuming, humble, and always puts others above herself.  It's 100% a vibe sending constant TikToks, binging Stranger Things together, experimenting with Gluten Free baked goods: basically we make the best domestic team. Also find Hannah picking up her walking pace to catch a glimpse of a corgi, sipping pumpkin foam Starbs cold brew, or cuddling up enjoying a Hallmark Christmas movie.

What a ray of sunshine this one is in my life. BL and I met at Tenth and I've loved every step of our friendship growing stronger and stronger. She is always on the go: working as an RN at CHOP in the Cardiac Intensive Unit and driving all over PA to catch babies as a midwife student. But that does not stop her from consistently showing selfless acts of love to the people in her life. She inspires me to ask the tough questions and tackle life without fear, but with grace and deep faith. Also see Becky Lynn making the most amazing Mexican cuisine and homemade tortillas, sipping on an Amaretto Sour, or planning the best party.

If you know Brigida, you know she is always going out of her way to make someone else feel loved. It's evident she puts others above herself: on her own wedding day, the first thing she said to me  was "Hellyyy, how did you sleep??". .. the literal kindest. Brigida reached out when I first came to Tenth for coffee and breakfast dates. I felt so welcomed into the church by her love. Also find her caring for kiddos in the oncology unit at CHOP,  getting pumped for some good ol' chips and salsa, or singing like a literal angel.

I am SO excited to gain Sonya as a sister. Jason's sister, Sonya, welcomed me into the Bull fam since day one. Sonya shows her love for others through being the best mom to her little ones, being a beloved daughter, sister, and wife, and dedicating her career to loving on her patients as a nurse. Also find Sonya taking trips to Disney, helping me avert some kitchen mishaps on Thanksgiving day, and making the cutest crafty tumblers.

Who knew God would bless me with another sister later in life. She has been a delight in my life; I always love to see her whenever I visit our parents in CT. I've seen her grow up the past many years and God is making her into a beautiful young woman. Calli is from South Dakota and is South Dakotan through and through. Also catch Calli riding her dirt bike all over New England, reading a fantasy book, or listening to some classic rock.

The venue in Honey Brook, PA has no restrictions regarding the amount of guests attending the wedding. We hope for an outside ceremony weather permitting. Masks are welcome but not mandatory. When you RSVP, there will be an option to be seated for dinner outside for better air circulation. However, this will be away from the rest of the reception. You would be welcome to join the reception, of course. Your table to dine would just be outside of that area. This website will be updated with any new information regarding COVID. Feel free to reach out to Jason &amp; Helen with any questions.
