Helen & Tanner

His POV:

Helen and I officially met for the first time back in 2019 when we were heading to the New England area for a mission trip with our church. I definitely knew who she was, but she told me she had no idea who I was before the trip. On that trip, we became good friends and we stayed friends for about a year and half, hanging out every once in awhile. Then came January of 2021, when Helen, a couple of friends, and I started watching the Bachelor every week. Over those next few months, I definitely started developing a crush over Helen but was unsure how she felt about me. I had a feeling she felt the same way when she asked me to her sorority formal but me being a dumb boy I didn’t really do anything about it. Helen was the one who actually had the courage and told me she liked me. I told her I felt the same way. But don’t worry though I ended up asking her on our first date

Eventually a couple months later we went to Texas Rangers game on June 27th in 2021 and on that day I officially asked her to be my girlfriend! (#GoRangers). I was still in school at DBU and Helen was already graduated, working full time. Once I graduated in August of 2022 after a year and 2 months of dating, we started talking about engagement and marriage, looking forward to what it would look like for us. I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her so I started saving up for a ring as soon as we started talking about it. I told her that I wouldn’t be able to propose until February or March just because I did not have enough money to buy a ring. Well that all was a lie haha. I bought the ring in December and surprised her by proposing on January 14th of 2023 and she said yes! Helen is a true joy to have in my life. She is constant encourager, makes me laugh, makes me feel loved, and is my best friend. I’m so very excited to get to marry her and spend the rest of our life together. I love you Helen and I can’t wait to see how the Lord blesses our marriage!

Her POV:

In 2019 I went on a mission trip with my church, First Irving, to Nashua, NH. I was told I was in a group with a guy named Tanner Eisenmann. I had no idea who he was until we were flying to New England. On the trip we became fast friends and continued our friendship back at DBU and church. At the beginning of 2021 I decided to start watching The Bachelor with my friends and one day Tanner asked if he could watch with us and I said sure! We continued to see each other each week to watch The Bachelor and I started developing feelings for him. I decided after a couple of weeks to tell him I liked him and he told me he liked me too. We began dating and I realized that I loved Tanner. He was easy to talk to and he always made me feel comfortable.

For his 23rd birthday he wanted to have a birthday dinner that Saturday night after. That Saturday morning he asked if I could go to a coffee shop and I asked if my roommate Lauren could come and he said yes. The three of us went to Bread Zeppelin and a coffee shop. At the coffee shop we played a game I brought then we all decided to read our books. As I was reading I noticed Tanner kept getting distracted and went to the bathroom a couple of times (he later told me it was because he was so nervous). He stopped reading so I suggested just having him drop me off at home before dinner to get ready. Once I got home instead of getting ready I decided to clean my bathroom. Tanner kept texting me what I was wearing to dinner and I told him “I have no idea.” He suggested a dress that I said at one point “would be a fun to get engaged in” (can’t believe he remembered that and I didn’t in the moment). Once he picked me up for dinner he kept playing on his phone (texting people at the proposal site) and I told him to start driving since our reservation was in 20 minutes so we wouldn’t be late. As we were driving to the “restaurant” I started looking up the menu, not paying attention to all our favorite love songs playing. Once we got to the park I asked “Where is the restaurant?” To which Tanner replied “we aren’t going to the restaurant” and in that moment I knew he was going to propose. Tanner asked me to marry him and I said yes! I can’t wait to spend the rest of my days with him.
