In the sanctuary at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Rockville, located at 100 Welsh Park Dr. Rockville, MD 20850 (close to Montgomery College). We're having a small, private ceremony. Please join us for the reception at 6 p.m.!
Please note: UU churches are very laid-back, welcoming places. It's a pretty venue with a chill vibe and ample parking. We did not suddenly become alarmingly religious.
Is there a hotel room block?
Nope. Most of you are locals. That said, there are several hotels within a few miles of the venue and it's usually easy to get an Uber/Lyft in that area if you'd like to indulge and not drive. Event will be open bar!
What's the dress code?
Cocktail attire or something in that vicinity would be great. Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes for dancing!
What's the parking situation?
There will be ample parking in the church lot, but you can also park along the street in the neighborhood nearby.
What if I've got kids?
Bring 'em! Or don't, whatever floats your boat. We'll be renting smaller meeting room in the same building as the reception space that can be used for nursing moms, kids needing some chill-out time, etc. There are also a couple playgrounds onsite! If you're interested in bringing a babysitter and would like to use onsite space for this, please reach out to the bride so we can coordinate.
Can I take photos?
Please do!! As long as you're not blocking the view of our professional photographer, we encourage guests to take photos/video and would love for you to share them with us!
Is there a wedding hashtag?
I love that this is a question. The best one we've got so far is #OhMyGinniss but other suggestions welcome. Please be sure to tag us when you post!
How do you pronounce the groom's name?
Ciaran is an Irish name that's pronounced with a hard C like KEER-an. Helen's voice-to-text always assumes it's "Karen," which is understandable. If it helps, here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eH5L8qXo8Y
Is the bride changing her name?
Yep! She will be Helen Hocknell McGinniss.
Are the bride and groom really moving to Australia later this year?
Yes! Ciaran's 3-year assignment with the Australian embassy will be up in September 2024. The groom has family in Perth and Brisbane, so they're hoping to land in one of those two cities for a few years. They're so glad to have this opportunity to celebrate with everyone before heading abroad!
