Picture this: a lovely January evening in Peoria, Illinois back in 2016. Kendall and her sorority sister Hannah are meeting up with a group at Late Night BU (Bradley University’s monthly social event) for an evening of fun. While waiting in line for the snake encounter, Kendall and Henry strike up a conversation. To break the ice, Henry offers to show her his tattoo, to which she replies, “Absolutely! I love tattoos”. To her disbelief, Henry displayed a small inner wrist tattoo. Upon closer inspection, Kendall discovered not only was it a tattoo of a cartoon sheep, but it was a kids temporary stick on tattoo. It was at that moment Kendall realized that this was no ordinary college guy -he was something special.
Anyone who knows Kendall understands that she goes after what she wants. That was no different when it came to Henry. Hannah and Kendall did some light Facebook stalking the next day, and with the slip of a finger, she sent him a friend request. As Hannah and Kendall were freaking out in Kendall’s dorm room, six floors up Henry was peacefully playing video games with some of his floormates. To stir the pot even more, Hannah texted Henry to ask if he was single, to which Henry replied, “who’s asking?” The next morning, Henry found Hannah sitting in the lobby of their dorm hall and, having put two and two together, asked if her inquiry was on behalf of Kendall. To which Hannah replied, “I can’t tell you.”
A few weeks passed and Henry finally mustered up the courage to ask Kendall out to dinner. So, the two of them set off for their classy pasta date at the Student Center food court. After a successful first date, Kendall invited Henry over for a scary movie night to watch Babadook. To Kendall's surprise, Henry hated scary movies, but wanted to impress her by not being scared (he was). As the semester went on, Henry invited Kendall to his fraternity semi formal at Rend Lake. At this point, Kendall wanted Henry to define their relationship after being together for a few months. At Rend Lake, they mutually agreed to be exclusively with one another.
Kendall and Henry went on to finish their bachelor degrees from Bradley University. After living separately for a few years, they decided to search for an apartment together. They settled on a cozy apartment in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago.
That September, Henry cooked up a plan to take Kendall on an international trip to Italy. The comedy of errors began as soon as they landed. Since they had never traveled internationally solo, they hired a driver to take them from the airport directly to their hotel. However, things began to go south when the driver was not at the airport until an hour after their landing. Henry wanted to make this trip perfect and was freaking out that the driver wasn't there. After finally getting into the car, they mistakenly thought they were in the clear. However, due to a language barrier, the driver took them to not one, not two, but three incorrect hotels before Henry got fed up and pulled out his phone to get google maps to assist. Upon arrival at the hotel, one would hope they were in the clear for their vacation to begin. Alas that was not to be, as their room would not be ready for a few more hours. Not letting this deter them, they decided to explore Villa Borghese, a short walk from the hotel. Later on, they finally got into the hotel room and got ready for dinner.
The lovely couple walked around Rome and searched for a place to eat. Henry convinced Kendall to make a quick stop. Through winding streets and cobblestone roads, they made their way toward the Trevi Fountain. After viewing the fountain from the front for a few minutes, Henry wanted to view it from the left side. Kendall agreed to do so, but was confused why the side would be any better than the front. So Henry and Kendall pushed and nudged through the crowd until they found the spot that Henry wanted. This would be the crescendo of Henry's clever scheme to propose to Kendall. He knelt down and asked her to marry him, and of course she said yes. As he stood up, he told Kendall to take in the moment and look around. To her surprise, her mom was crying tears of joy behind her. A few steps behind, Henry’s dad was grinning from ear to ear. Seconds later, pushing through the crowd, Henry’s mom exclaimed, “Did I miss it….do it again!” The look on her face was absolutely serious. The two of them made their way towards the fountain and got engaged for the second time. This time, a large crowd of people noticed what was happening and began to cheer in celebration.
