It is known for its clear blue waters and spacious, clean beach, and yes, in September it will be warm enough to go swimming in the ocean! Go visit the bride and groom's alma mater, UNCW! The campus is easy to drive around to get a look or tours are offered everyday at either 10 or 11 AM and 2 PM. It's a great day to be a seahawk!

University of North Carolina Wilmington

Visit and tour the 729 foot USS North Carolina, a former WWII battleship!At the time of her commissioning on April 9, 1941, she was considered the world's greatest sea weapon. During World War II, NORTH CAROLINA participated in every major naval offensive in the Pacific area of operations and earned 15 battle stars. She also carried out nine shore bombardments, sank an enemy troopship, destroyed at least 24 enemy aircraft, and assisted in shooting down many more. By war's end, USS NC steamed over 300,000 miles and had lost only ten men in action and had 67 wounded. The USS NC was decommissioned in 1947 and was moved to her final home on the Cape Fear River in October of 1961.Battleship North Carolina is open every day of the year from 8 am to 8 pm.Admission Rates:- Adults: $14-Seniors (65+): $10- Children: $6Children 5 and under are free!

Cape Fear Riverboats

The Bellamy Mansion was built between 1859 and 1861 and is one of North Carolina's finest examples of historic architecture. The mansion has twenty-two rooms and was constructed with the labor of both enslaved skilled carpenters and freed black artisans. The home was taken over by federal troops during the American Civil War, survived a disastrous fire in 1972, was home to two generations of Bellamy family members, and now following extensive restoration and preservation over several decades, the Bellamy Mansion is a fully functioning museum of history and design arts. It is now a stewardship property of Preservation North Carolina, a private nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection of historic sites in North Carolina.Tours must be booked 3 days in advance so please contact them early to make your reservation.

The Riverwalk is open 24/7 and stretches for roughly 1 mile along the waterfront, although plans are in the works to extend it even further through the city. The wide boardwalk is lighted for after-hours strolls, and has a series of cozy benches and light landscaping for visitors who want to pause, linger, and admire the view. At any time, Riverwalk strollers can also easily hop off the wooden planks to pop into a waterfront restaurant or boutique, or can even take a side-trip to visit the USS Battleship, which is located just a shell's throw away. Scenic throughout the year and a great spot for walkers, joggers, and everyday sightseers, the Wilmington Riverwalk is an iconic destination, and is a "must see" for any new Cape Fear visitor. Also, check out the One Tree Hill scenery located in downtown Wilmington!
