The Meeting

Hilary and Dan first met in 2016 during the Remote Year program. Hilary was a participant in the yearlong remote work experience, while Dan was working for the company as an admissions consultant. Over the course of a year, we casually got to know each other while traveling around Europe and South America with 70 other amazing human beings. When the program wrapped up in July 2017, we decided to go our separate ways. Despite the distance that separated us, we stayed in touch.

The Dating

A few months after Remote Year ended, we decided to meet up in Dublin, Ireland to explore more of Europe together. We traveled to Oktoberfest in Munich and spent time with friends in London, England. It was then that it become clear we were both interested in continuing to grow our relationship. The first year was packed with travel and adventures in Toronto, Playa Del Carmen, Tulum, Mexico City, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Vancouver, Chicago, Beaver Island, Florida, and Jamaica, with multiple trips to our hometowns in between. When we were apart, we spent hours on WhatsApp and FaceTime. At the beginning of 2019, we decided it was time to slow down on travel. We spent the winter in Toronto. Then, we headed to Montreal, Quebec for the summer followed by another adventure to Turkey, Malta, and France. In Fall 2019, Dan rented an apartment in Hamilton, Ontario, and Hilary began visiting him frequently for short and long-term stays. Then COVID-19 happened.

The Marriage

Hilary was visiting Dan in Hamilton when we learned COVID-19 had made its way to North America. Hilary decided to stick it out in Canada. The U.S./Canada border shut down, and if Hilary were to have left Canada, she wouldn't be allowed to return and the couple would be separated with no end of the border closure in sight. In July 2020, Hilary's Canadian tourist visa was set to expire, so she returned to Indiana. Despite the border closure, Dan was able to enter the U.S. via flight during August 2020. It was during that trip to Elkhart that we decided to get married. We were married during a very intimate backyard ceremony at Hilary's parents home with only Jack and Angie (Hilary's parents), Nate and Claire (Hilary's siblings), and Hank and Buster (the dogs) present. Getting married opened many doors for us. Immediately Hilary was exempt from border closure mandates and was able to return to Canada with Dan. We were also able to begin down the long Canadian and American immigration road we have ahead- the first step being Hilary applying for Canadian Permanent Resident. Dan was planning to propose to Hilary in Winter 2020, so we just sped things up a little. :)

The Now

Today we are living in Hamilton, Ontario with our awesome little frenchie Buster! We bought our first house during June 2021. Hilary officially became a permanent resident of Canada in December 2022, so we're hanging out in Canada for the foreseeable future. Eh? ;)

Hotel Room Blocks

PARKING: Valet parking is the only on-site option for $59 per night with in and out options. For self-parking option we recommend the garage located at 79 Wellington Street West (TD Centre).&nbsp;On the weekend, this parking garage has a flat rate of $20, or $10 per 12hr window (6a-6p &amp; 6p-6a). No in &amp; out privileges.&nbsp;On levels 1, 3 &amp; 5, there is an elevator that will take you directly into the hotel on the Main Mezzanine level. From there you can easily navigate to the main bank of elevators. The room block is fully booked. If you have a room reservation that requires modification, please contact the hotel directly.

Airports

This is the main airport in Toronto. You can get to your downtown accommodations via ride share (Uber, Lyft), taxi, or the UP Express (Terminal 1). The UP Express is the ideal transportation method as it will take you directly from the airport to Union Station, right across the street from the Fairmont Hotel.

Smaller airport located right downtown Toronto. Public buses, ride share (Uber/Lyft), and taxis available for transport to your accommodations . Have more time on your hands? Rent a car or take a bus 2 hours to see the iconic Niagara Falls! Make sure to pay attention to traffic patterns. Entering &amp; exiting downtown Toronto during rush hour traffic can add 1+ hour to your trip.

Drive 1 hour to visit Hilary and Dan's home city of Hamilton! Have lunch &amp; shop on James Street North or hit up one of the many hiking trails to see one of the city's 100+ waterfalls.
