Steven and Hillary met on Match.com in the spring of 2014. Steve was taken by the beautiful girl with a doggy in her profile picture (thanks Winnie) and Hill was intrigued by Steve's profile which included a penchant for white chocolate. Their first date was at Bleu in Mashpee Commons (their very table is pictured above) on May 1st, what they since consider their anniversary. Unbeknownst to Hillary's family, she trustingly rumbled up to Steve's rental in her beloved Jeep "Ruby" sporting a walking boot (due to a torn ankle tendon and impending surgery). Thank goodness Steve wasn't an ax murderer because Hill wouldn't have been able to outrun him!

Steve hurriedly vacuumed the house for the first time since he moved in. Manny wasted no time introducing himself via his ever-curious nose. Hillary, the picky eater that she was, had scoured the menu for hours beforehand. The highlight of the evening was Steve drinking the restaurant's entire water supply. Naturally Steve settled on something romantic for the car ride back to his rental: Eminem. The rest is history!

As fate would have it, Steve was driving home from the annual Wenzel family trip to New Hampshire in the the fall of 2017 when Steve asked Hill to check why his phone vibrated. It was a text message from "Joan Jeweler" reading "Got your check." When Steve received the ring, he hid it somewhere he knew Hill would never find it: the crockpot (Steve does the cooking in their relationship).

Hillary suspected what was coming when Steve disappeared into their spare bedroom Christmas morning. He had bought pig and cow collars for Harlow and Manny, and fastened the ring to Harlow’s collar. The ring fell on the floor at Hillary’s feet when Harlow sprinted into the living room and shook. Stunned, Hillary said "I think you dropped something!" Steve scrambled to the floor to prevent Harlow from swallowing the ring and ended up perfectly poised on one knee.
