Holly and Shay met on a snowy night in December of 2017. Holly was out with her friend, Justin, when they decided to stop into the Wharf "just for one". Shay was bar tending and it was a quiet night at the back bar. To help pass the time, Holly encouraged him to do tricks behind the bar, like "pretend your rowing a boat", and "act like you're going down an elevator". Holly and Shay reconnected in May of 2018 thanks (again) to Holly's friend, Justin, who encouraged her to be open-minded, even though she thought she was too old for Shay. A summer romance turned into an off-island relationship and here we are now! Who says you can't find love at the Wharf Pub?!

Before you decide on how to get to Martha's Vineyard, consider how long you plan to stay, where you are stay while on island, and what you want to do while you are there. For example...If you know you are going to want to explore all of the island and/or stay for longer than the weekend, you may want to book a car reservation with the Steamship Authority.OR, if you plan to stay at the Winnetu Resort, you are walking distance to the beach and can use the resort shuttle to get into Edgartown. You would not need to bring your vehicle and can take any mode of transportation.Or, if you are coming from the other side of the country, you could fly into MVY or take the bus down from Logan to Woods Hole.

Option 1: Steamship Authority

Option 1: <a href="https://www.steamshipauthority.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Steamship Authority</a>Ride the ferry from Woods Hole, MA into Oak Bluffs or Vineyard Haven. (All ferries leave from the same port in Woods Hole, but boats go to both ports on MV: Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven. You can take any boat!) For the SSA, you can park in a lot and take the shuttle to the ferry, OR book a reservation to bring your car over. Reservations for June 2027 will open in February 2027. THIS IS THE ONLY OPTION IF YOU PLAN TO BRING YOUR CAR OVER.

Option 2: Other ferries for walking over

Option 2: Other ferries if you plan on walking over(We don't travel via these options so can't advise on parking, schedules, etc. You will need to arrange transportation to where you are staying. Option 3 and 4: Fly

Option 3: Fly into MVYAirlines that fly to MVY are: American Airlines, CapeAir, Delta and JetBlue. You will need to arrange transportation to where you are staying.If staying at the Winnetu, their shuttle can pick you up at the airport. Option 4: Fly into Logan and take the <a href="https://peterpanbus.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Peter Pan bus</a> to Woods Hole, MA. Then take the Steamship Authority ferry over.

Getting to MV

Winnetu Oceanside Resort:A pricey option, but also the easiest: stay at the venue! Enjoy the beach, pool, spa, restaurant and more right at the venue. AND you will have the easiest commute for the ceremony and reception. The Winnetu offers 1-2 bedroom guest rooms/suites in the hotel, and multi-bedroom cottages/townhouses on the property. There is a 2-night minimum. They will give you a 10% discount when using the room block.

Looking for a cheaper option? Try booking.com, hotels.com, vrbo.com, or airbnb.com. If you are not bringing a car, we recommend finding something in downtown Edgartown or Oak Bluffs as these two towns offer the most walkable amenities.

Where to Stay on MV

A car is the easiest way to get around the island. You will be able to easily access all 6 towns on your own time table. (Though parking may not be so easy!!). You can bring your car over on the ferry via the Steamship Authority, or rent a car on the island.

UBER/TAXI

In recent years, Uber has extended coverage to the island and you can usually find drivers. There is also an abundance of taxis. You will easily find them in all of the Down Island towns and at the airport (they are right there when you get off the boat!). If you are staying outside of town or Up Island, you would need to call to schedule one. Ride the VTA - MV has a great bus system that can get you most places on the island but you are at the mercy of the bus schedules. <a href="https://www.vineyardtransit.com/bus-route-schedules" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bus Route Schedules</a>

BIKE

Rent (or bring) a bike. There are a lot of bike paths to explore on the island. You won't be able to bike the whole island, but you could get yourself from Edgartown to Oak Bluffs and vice-versa.

Please note: if you choose to rent a moped, we won't claim you as our wedding guest and you are taking your own fate into your own hands.

Getting Around MV

Down Island Towns

"Down island" refers to the eastern towns of Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, and Vineyard Haven. These are the busier port towns on the island.

Edgartown

Downtown Main Street:Hit the shops, enjoy some ice cream as you stroll, grab lunch (and a mudslide) at the Seafood Shanty, and snap some pics at Memorial Wharf. Bad Martha Brewery:On upper Main St, check out the brewery and tap room. Time it right and enjoy some live music! South Beach (Katama):This is a public beach that is walking distance from the Winnetu. There is also parking if you are not staying at the Winnetu and still want to enjoy some surf!

Oak Bluffs

OB Harbor:Grab some lunch or a drink and sit along the harbor. Watch the boats, the sunset, or the people. (We recommend the "Mommy's Helper" at Fishbones!) Joseph Sylvia State Beach or Inkwell Beach:These are public beaches in OB. Inkwell Beach is walkable from downtown OB. State Beach is a short drive outside of town.(Driving towards Edgartown, State Beach beach is wear you'll find the infamous Jaws Bridge!) The Flying Horses:Check out the oldest operating carousel in the country! Good luck grabbing the brass ring! Circuit Avenue:The street for shopping in OB. Nomans:Just outside of town, this is a cool spot to grab a drink and hang on the lawn or in the shade. They have jenga, cornhole, Connect 4, etc. Golf:Allegedly Farm Neck Golf club is open to the public? No clue if this is true but check it out.

Vineyard Haven

Main Street:This the shopping street in Vineyard Haven. If you're in the mood for a coffee, check out Mocha Motts! Golf:Allegedly Mink Meadows is open to the public. No clue if this is true, but good luck. Mini golf at The Cove:The preeminent form of golf!

Up Island Towns

Up Island towns:"Up island" on Martha's Vineyard refers to the more rural, western towns on the island. (Does this make sense? Absolutely not.)

Menemsha: nice little fishing village on the western coast of the island. They have a little beach, a few fish markets where you can grab a bite, and one of the best views of the sunset. In the mood for an ice cream treat? Hit up the walk-up window at the Texaco. Aquinnah: If you have a car and are up for the trek, Aquinnah is the western-most town with beautiful views. Check out the views of the Cliffs and the Gay Head light (former name of the town). Chilmark: As you meander your way up to Menemsha or Aquinnah, you will pass through Chilmark with pretty views of some farms. The Chilmark Flea Market happens on Thursdays and Saturdays. West Tisbury: Poke around Alley's General Store, stroll over to the field gallery, and check out the Farmer's Market at the Ag Hall.
