Little did I know that my "graduation gift" would turn into my dream wedding proposal. Jarrett and I love watching "Fever Pitch." I would even say it's our favorite movie. He has always been a die-hard Boston Red Sox fan, and has turned me into one since 2011. I always said that I wanted to go to a game at Fenway Park.
We were out playing golf one Sunday afternoon, and Jarrett told me to start looking up games that we could go to. We had several weddings to attend and with tobacco season in, we had to plan the trip around that too. I thought I found the perfect game, then we looked at our calendar and it was on our friend's wedding day. Our only option was the almost sold-out Yankees game. The game any baseball fan would die to go to. Red Sox vs. Yankees at Fenway Park. So, after talking to Jarrett's friend that he wanted to take with us, little to my knowledge to be the photographer of the proposal, we bought the tickets and booked a hotel. We ended up staying at the Longwood Inn, pretty cool right? We wanted to fly, but couldn't find a flight that suited the time we were able to leave, so we drove...14 LONG hours one way. We arrived in Boston at about 3:00AM. We got a little sleep, but I was up bright and early to go sight-seeing. We went to breakfast, and I forgot that we were north of the Mason-Dixon and I order sweet tea. Mistake. I got the funniest look and the waitress said , "Ummm...I'm sorry but we don't have that." with a very confused look on her face. Oops.
We went on a Fenway Park tour and had drinks and dinner at a pretty cool restaurant. I wish we would have had more time to tour. But we had to rush back to the hotel to change into our jerseys and get ready for the big game.
We got to the game a little early so that we could walk around the park a little more and find our seats. The game was underway and Boston was winning. It was mid-sixth inning when Jarrett told me that in the middle of the seventh we were going to go get a beer refill. I immediately said "Oh no! I am NOT missing Sweet Caroline!" It is Red Sox tradition to play Sweet Caroline in the middle of the seventh inning. He was very demanding and said I wouldn't miss it and would still hear it. I was very persistent that I was not getting up. Well Jarrett and our friends got up and he said I was just going to be left by myself if I didn't come. Who wants to be alone at a baseball game? Not me; so I gave in. Well, we got to the end of our isle and he turned to go down toward the field, but I knew there wasn't a beer stand that way. I told him we were going the wrong way, but he told me he knew where he was going. We were almost down on the field and he turned around and dropped to one knee. I couldn't believe my eyes! A real dream come true! I was beyond amazed that he planned something so perfect. My family all knew, and they were all watching the game from home hoping to see us on the big screen. Needless to say, he could barely get the question out with just the small section that was watching, so I don't think it would have went well. I've never seen him so nervous, and before I just couldn't figure out why he wasn't acting like himself. Well, my question had been answered!
I am so thankful to have had Jake and Ashley with us to get it all on video. He had been planning the proposal since April. Every time we watched Fever Pitch I would always say, "Ya know, a proposal at Fenway would be pretty cool." Just trying to give hints, not knowing he had already thought of it and planned it long before me.
July 11, 2015 was the best day of my life, until June 3, 2017 comes around!
