Our Wedding

Our story begins on our Orientation day for college. We entered into one of the dance studios that had chairs lined up around the walls with a main table in the middle. A lady sat there and called our respective names to the line we were sitting in and Hope took the open chair at the end of the line where a boy clad in a leather jacket and ripped black jeans sat. She’s young, single, and in a new city so she decided she was gonna be flirtatious and forward because this guy next to her was CUTE. Now we aren’t entirely sure who began the conversation but we exchanged names (which in Hope’s book was success #1). They had small conversations with each other while They waited, talking about where They were originally from and what They were excited to see in the city. Ian told her, "I'm from New York", and in Hope’s midwestern mind she took New York as he is from this Manhattan city so therefore he must know of cool places around here. And he did, which seemed to solidify her theory, so she took it one step further and tried to set up a date for the two... "So, what's your favorite cuisine?" She asked. "I'm not sure, I like pizza and Chinese mainly" "Oh! I like Chinese too! It's a comfort meal of mine, do you know of any good take-out Chinese places around us?" "No." "Oh... okay, what about pizza? Any good pizza places around here?" She knew one was by our dorms, but she wanted to see if he would take the hint. "Not that I know of", he responded. (He ended up eating there later that day with his family.) Alright, so no to pizza and Chinese. At this point, she would try one last option before calling it quits. "Do you like coffee? I know there are tons of Starbucks around us. We could go before class." She’s thinking to herself - please, let this work. He quipped back, "I'm not much of a coffee drinker and I don't really like Starbucks". Wow. Hope was upset at this point and noticed him shifting uncomfortably in his chair as she said to him. "I thought you said you lived here." "No. I said I'm from New York, like upstate New York. There's more to the state than just New York City." And to that we say, fair point. She had no idea what to do or say to that so she simply nodded her head, took the hint and we turned away from one another. It was the hardest wall of silence either of us have ever hit in our lives and Hope’s watched her dad and brother try and meet new people without her mom as their conversation buffer. Not long after that Ian's name got called and we parted ways. To his credit, he thought the conversation went fairly well and ended up telling his mom afterward about a “nice girl named Hope” that he met. He dated people, she dated people. They reconnected in the elevator once and Hope was so embarrassed she only waved and turned to face the door in fear. He also accidentally sent a friend of his on a date with her. Ian was actually the one to figure out where to take her on the date with his friend. It was one of the most awkward dates of Hope’s life. Our paths reconnected when we were put into the same class together. Hope remembers seeing his name in the class group chat and thinking how familiar that name sounded. We sent pictures of each other in the chat soon after to have a face with a name type of recognition. He sent a picture in his red letterman jacket holding a guitar and she thought to herself, "Oh shit, I'm screwed." Because she knew she’d have to face him and apologize, which she did. We became good friends and soon started to spend time outside of class together. In an attempt to get closer to him, she learned Dungeons and Dragons (success #2).&nbsp; Now, after many years of love, laughter, D&amp;D campaigns, and adventures around the world she is beyond excited to be marrying her best friend.
