Our Story

Hope's POV

Drew and I met through mutual friends, and let's just say we were both pretty smitten after the first time meeting that Saturday evening. Monday, he asked me if I was interested in going on a date with him the upcoming Thursday. I happily accepted. However, on Tuesday, Drew couldn't wait for Thursday, and asked me on a "pre-date" that night. He offered to bring me to a local ice cream shop and for those of you who know me, I had no choice but to accept. Ice cream can never be turned down.

Now, this was no ordinary ice cream shop. It's one where they make the ice cream with liquid nitrogen in front of you. Their menu was extensive and the line was moving fast. I asked Drew what he was ordering and was happy to hear it was caramel. I asked him to get me whatever he was getting since I wanted to focus on watching the employees making the ice cream. He was ordering and my eyes were glued to the glorious work happening in front of me. One employee asked if he wanted salt with his caramel ice creams. Before I could say anything, he answered yes and I watched in dismay as she shook a shaker over the ice cream bowls and continued to mix them up. My beautiful ice cream was contaminated with HUGE salt crystals.

Unwilling to waste ice cream, (okay okay, I didn't want Drew to feel bad either) I choked down the ice cream to the best of my ability, while I genuinely enjoyed the conversation that easily flowed between us. Thank goodness he didn't notice, and eventually the night came to an end. The rest is pretty much history, that is until February 10th, 2024...

After a date walk down memory lane, Drew wanted to quickly drop by our now favorite ice cream shop (yes the one from our first date) to pick up a gift card as a small thank you to one of his friends. When we walk in, Drew asks cleverly if I'd like to walk down memory lane once more and get some salted caramel ice cream (I did fess up by this point to tell him I hated that flavor, and it had become an inside joke between us). I strongly objected. He responded by asking if I didn't want to think about the last three years together. I again said no. (We were in a time crunch) He then asked if I would like to think about spending the rest of my life with him. I turned around, shocked to see Drew kneeling in front of me with a ring box in his hands. I happily accepted, and the rest really is history!
