Our story is a complete testament to God's faithfulness and providence over our lives.
A little background: We both grew up in McDonough. We played upward basketball at the same church (there is a picture of Hunner playing defense on Saralyn's brother, David, while Saralyn was in the background keeping score). We attended Strong Rock Christian School together from 6th to 12th grade. We graduated in a class of 72 people, had six years of classes together, played the same sports, had mutual friends, and didn't officially meet until August of our senior year. Our friendship was God-ordained and bathed in prayer. At the start of 2020, Saralyn began praying for a friend she could encourage and share the love of Jesus with. After months of isolation because of the pandemic, she began doubting whether God heard her prayer. While Saralyn was struggling, COVID pushed Hunner toward Christ, and he began praying for God to do something new in his life. Not long into their friendship did Hunner and Saralyn realize that they were each other's answered prayer. God's timing was absolutely perfect. From August to November, we became the best of friends. We were constantly swapping stories, talking football, sharing laughs, and just learning about each other with no intention of dating. With a bit of motivation from friends, we began thinking about what a relationship could look like for us. On December 12, 2020, Hunner asked Saralyn to be his girlfriend. It didn't take long for us to realize that we wanted to make this relationship work as we were both heading off to college. Hunner headed to Georgia Southwestern to play college baseball, and Saralyn went to Truett McConnell for track and field. After a year of distance, lots of prayers, and one shoulder surgery later, we both moved home. At this point, we were confident that God intended us to spend our lives together but were waiting for His perfect timing. A year and a half later, on September 16, 2023, Hunner asked Saralyn to marry him at Indian Springs State Park. Our families helped Hunner create a beautiful proposal site (look under the "photos" tab) with family and friends waiting to celebrate with us shortly after. Every detail was perfect, and we are so appreciative of the love, thought, time, and energy put into making our proposal day one we will never forget. Now, we are looking forward to returning to our engagement site, but this time for a wedding! The countdown is on!
If you are reading this, please know you are special to us. We would not be here without your love and encouragement. We know that God has orchestrated every step that has led us to this season of life, including placing YOU in our lives. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We look forward to celebrating with you on October 11, 2024!
