In the Spring of 2016, I met Corey at an end of the year rugby party. He was introduced to me as THE guy to know. From there, we quickly became best friends. We went through many stages of growing up together.
Through the years, we went through various relationships and, of course, almost all of them told us at one point or another that we shouldn't speak or that Corey and I were too close of friends. No matter what happened, Corey and I always seemed to be led together. When we were kept apart, it didn't seem to matter how long it had been, we always fell right back into our friendship like no time had passed.
When Corey came back to college and decided to live at the apartment complex I managed, it was just the same. Best friends - inseparable. Until other relationships eventually got in the way. Then one morning, I got a phone call from Corey. I didn't answer, saying I would call him back later because he probably just wanted to vent about his girlfriend or something. I finally called him back, after finding out the unthinkable had happened. A horrible accident, resulting in the death of the very person who introduced Corey and I that first night in 2016, and Corey was waiting outside my office, wondering where I was, so that I didn't find out on Facebook. He was my rock, and was there whenever I needed him.
After a while, we were both dating other people and tolerating each other's significant others. Corey would come by my office every day at 4:45 after his classes to spend the last few minutes of my day with me. And one of these days, after trying my hardest to just not speak to Corey because he had yet again let a girl come in between our friendship, he stood outside my office waiting, so I couldn't ignore him this time. We sat in my car in front of his building forever, finally airing out everything that had happened between us, and that's when he kissed me.
From that day on, we really were truly inseparable. At first we tried to hide our relationship for fear of how it would be viewed by everyone else. Then we tried to tell everyone, and after years of being accused of being together and not, no one wanted to believe we were actually together this time! But this time there would be no girlfriend telling us not to speak, no boyfriend telling us we couldn't spend time together. Just two best friends who had been falling in love over the last 8 years, finally getting married!
