Inaê and Ryan met for the first time in Benfica, Portugal. Both of them served a mission for Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Portugal. Their first interaction happened when Inaê asked Ryan: "Elder Ixtlahuac (known as Elder in the mission), how do you pronounce your last name?"

The two saw each other just three other times on the mission, but reconnected after the mission through instagram. After returning home from her mission in June 2019, Inaê spent 2 months at her home in São Paulo, Brazil before attending school in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ryan got back from his mission in August 2019 and subsequently went back to school in Boston.

Inaê and Ryan started dating in December of 2019 when Ryan came to Utah to visit his family for Christmas. In September 2021, they will be moving to Boston, where Inaê will work as a paralegal for a year, while applying to schools, and Ryan will be finishing up his senior year.
