Our Wedding

Isaac and Nia are both Mechanical Engineering majors at the University of Jamestown, located in Jamestown North Dakota. Their shared passion for learning, community, and faith brought them together during their college years. Isaac Spiegl grew up in Franklin, Wisconsin with his parents, Kevin and Sondra, his older sister, Kaitlyn, and his two younger brothers, Kodee and Sawyer. Isaac balances his time between academics and his love for the outdoors. At UJ, hes co-captain of the Shooting Sports Team, competing in both trap and archery. He is also deeply involved in campus ministry as a co-leader of the chapel worship team, where he lends both his voice and musical skills on the guitar or piano every Thursday. Isaac spends his free time enjoying his favorite hobbies—waterfowl hunting, golfing, and spending time with his black lab, Doc, who gets to live on campus with him! Nia Hanson is from the beautiful town of Whitefish, Montana. She has a close-knit family that includes her parents, Dan and Kim, and her younger brother, Bodee. In addition to her engineering studies, Nia is minoring in Character in Leadership, reflecting her passion for serving others. Nia is a dedicated student-athlete and competes as a swimmer on UJs Swim and Dive Team. Her involvement on campus doesnt stop there—Nia also plays the viola in the orchestra, plays an active role in ministry through the CRU and Missional Outreach teams, as well as leading Womens Bible Study with her close friend and bridesmaid, Jordan Temple. Nia can often be found sewing or knitting in her free time, in fact her friends (and sometimes even strangers) rely on her to fix all the rips, tears, and snags that enviably appear on their clothes. Isaac and Nia are so excited to start this next chapter of their lives with their closest friends and family by their sides.

Meet Isaac and Nia

Nia and Isaac's story began in August of 2022 at the University of Jamestown, in their Intro to Engineering class. On the very first day, they were placed in the same group for a project. The task? Build a bridge between two tables using nothing but popsicle sticks and tape. Along with their classmates, Nia and Isaac embraced the challenge with a blend of creativity, determination, and an excessive amount of tape. When the professor tested each bridge with weights, theirs held up impressively under the pressure. In fact, it not only supported all the weights but even managed to hold Nia's weight for several seconds before it finally gave way. That moment was more than just an engineering success—it was the start of something God had carefully planned, and since that day, their connection has only grown deeper, guided by faith and love.

How We Met

Throughout their first semester, Nia and Isaac found themselves crossing paths more often than could be mere coincidence. They shared several classes, lived in the same dorm building, and hung out with the same circle of friends. Little did they know that God was in the process of weaving their lives together. After Thanksgiving, they began to spend more time together. Their friendship blossomed naturally as they studied side by side in the library, shared meals at lunch, and attended chapel together, growing not only closer to each other but also to God. It's safe to say that by the time Christmas Break rolled around, both of them were harboring more than just friendly feelings. Isaac headed home to Wisconsin, and Nia went back to Montana to spend the holidays with their families. Despite the distance, they kept in touch every day. By the time they returned to campus, it was clear: God had not only brought them together as friends but had also planted the seeds of something deeper.

Our Friendship

At the start of Nia and Isaac's first semester, it was clear that their friendship had blossomed into something more. They were inseparable—sitting together in every class, studying side by side, sharing meals, and Isaac faithfully driving Nia to church every Sunday. Through it all, they both felt that God was guiding their connection, drawing them closer not only to each other but also to Him. Less than a month into the semester, Isaac asked Nia to be his girlfriend, and without hesitation, she said yes.&nbsp;They officially began dating on January 26, 2023, and their first date was simple yet memorable. They shared breakfast at The Depot Cafe, followed by a car show that left them both smiling and full of joy. By the end of their freshman year, they had not only said their first "I love you’s" but had also shared their first kiss. They knew that their relationship was being built on a foundation of faith, trust, and God’s love. And with each step they took together, it became clear that God's plan for them would be filled with love, laughter, and grace.

Dating

Only three short months after Nia and Isaac began dating, the school year came to an end, ushering in a bittersweet summer of long-distance. Saying goodbye was no easy task—tears were shed, and the long drives back to their respective homes felt heavier than usual.But just eleven days later, on Nia’s birthday, a beautiful surprise arrived. Isaac sent her a stunning bouquet of roses, accompanied by a note that held the best gift she could have imagined: a plane ticket to visit him over the Fourth of July. It was a thoughtful gesture, made possible by Nia’s parents, and it filled her heart with excitement. Not only was she eager to see Isaac again, but the visit also perfectly split the long summer in two, giving them something to look forward to as they navigated the distance.Throughout the summer, Nia and Isaac stayed connected by doing a devotional for dating couples, a practice that became a cornerstone of their relationship. It deepened their foundation, sparking meaningful conversations and helping them grow together as a Christian couple.Though the distance wasn’t easy—they missed each other deeply—they remained steadfast, ending every day with a FaceTime call. Looking back, they’re grateful for that season of separation, as it taught them to treasure their connection and laid the groundwork for the love they share today.

Long Distance

Nia and Isaac had been talking about getting engaged for a while. They’d even gone ring shopping together, so Nia knew a proposal was on the horizon. Isaac took her to several shops, carefully noting what she liked and didn’t like. But what Nia didn’t know was that Isaac later went back on his own and chose what he hoped would be the perfect ring.With the ring in hand, Isaac did something that meant the world to Nia—he visited her parents to ask for their blessing. They, of course, wholeheartedly said yes. Now came the tricky part: planning a proposal that would still surprise her, even though she knew it was coming.To pull it off, Isaac enlisted the help of Nia’s mom. Together, they devised the perfect plan, tying the proposal into something Nia wouldn’t suspect. That summer, Isaac was living in Montana, and Nia had been making it her mission to show him as much of the local area as possible. Conveniently, Nia’s family also needed to take their annual family photo, which provided the perfect cover. They convinced Nia that a family photo session on Big Mountain—where Isaac had never been before—would be the perfect outing.Nia, unsuspecting, threw herself into the planning, helping everyone coordinate outfits, including Isaac. On the day of the photoshoot, they all rode the gondola to the summit and hiked around until they found a stunning spot with breathtaking views. True to the plan, they started with family photos, and Nia was only mildly surprised that Isaac got to be in all of them.But then it came time for just Nia and Isaac to take a photo together. As the camera clicked, Isaac suddenly dropped to one knee. For a moment, Nia was truly surprised—but that quickly turned to joy, love, and excitement as she realized what was happening. Through happy tears, she said “yes” and threw her arms around him in the biggest hug.Afterward, they rode down the mountain on the chairlift, enjoying a sweet moment alone to soak it all in. Nia couldn’t stop staring at the ring—Isaac had absolutely nailed it. It was stunning, and the day couldn’t have been more perfect.
