I first met Mr. Luke Karter "with a K" Houston in our 10th-grade geometry class. I came to class early hoping to sit with another friend of mine who, at that point in time, was my only friend in the class. She had a friend who sat with her instead, and Luke was more than ecstatic to claim the spot next to me. I wasn't terribly happy about not sitting with my friend, but since Luke wasn't a stranger (more someone I knew of) he would have to do. He brought me Arizona tea every single morning, and that turned into bringing me to school every morning. He was so genuinely happy to see me each day and he definitely grew on me. When he asked me out, I couldn't say no. We went to a drive-in movie and barely focused on the movie. This is the first picture of us together on our old anniversity, June 9th 2018 :)

We were going steady for the next few months -- him coming to my house to pick me up for school 1.5 hours before school started, us being late to school because we spent all morning talking over breakfast, and making plans to see each other after school. More math classes together occurred going into our junior year (even though we never could stay awake for a full period...sorry Mr. Johnson!) and we eventually went with our closest friends to junior prom! We started to really compliment each other -- his big dreams and even bigger smile & my stupid jokes and awkward faces made us into a beautiful pair.

Once high school was over, we ended up moving in together and traveling with our friends a LOT! In this picture, we're in Durango, Colorado with our closest friends. We drove anywhere we could -- New Mexico, Colorado, all over Texas -- and where we couldn't reach by car, we took by plane. There were, and still are, constant adventures in our relationship. We started to take photobooth photos together on every trip we went on after this one in any photo booth we stumbled across. Pictures are great, but they can't capture the warmth in my chest when he looks at me. I was an absolute clown for this man and still am.

We ended up making the biggest decision two 20-somethings can make...we got a dog. I mean, I think she got us. We went to look for dogs and she, sitting with her pink bow adorned with dog droll, snuck her way into our lives. I'm not sure what she did to us, but she changed the way we looked at a lot of things in our lives. Even though she REEKS most of the time, we wouldn't be who we are today without her.

Luke always made sure that, no matter what we were going through, we would always end the day with laughter and a kiss. I didn't think someone could love and laugh as much as Luke makes me love him and laugh with him. He is sunshine to me, he is my joy.
The Proposal
Luke and I had the privilege of joining his dad at their cabin in Colorado over spring break. I had never been skiing before and was excited to be able to spend more time with Luke's family and enjoy some snow. We drove for 10+ hours on an icy road and arrived at the most BEAUTIFUL cabin I have ever seen. The house was filled with Luke's family, and each day we spent together was so fun. From playing cards at home, sitting in the hot tub during snowfall, or attempting to ice skate on the worst ice known to man, we had a blast. There was one problem though -- before we went on the trip, I was told to pack a dress for a family date night that was canceled on the day of. Luke and Rusty decided to agree to seize the opportunity and have just Luke and I go to dinner, and I was cool with having a date with my man at a nice restaurant. We got dressed and dolled up and headed to the restaurant. This restaurant, which was the talk of the town apparently, was completely empty. I was concerned we were too early and should go back to the house, but Luke was as cool as a cucumber and said we could get nice photos together before we went in. I love photos, so of course I was on board. We headed up to the restaurant. Luke took my bag and was begging to take a photo of me in my dress to send to my mom, which I did not want to do in the slightest since two people were sitting and talking about 15 feet away from us and I was embarrassed, LOL! After enough insisting, he took this photo of me...as you can see, I'm not terribly excited to pose in front of strangers...
After this singular pissed-off photo of me was taken, I guess Luke decided he wanted photos for his mom. I said sure and attempted to reach for my purse but Luke had already set my phone and bag on the ground. My first thought was "What the fuck? Why is he putting my bag on the ground that is so rude my hand is literally right here??", but that thought quickly changed when Luke got on one knee and proposed. I immediately had no thoughts. For the first time in my life, I stopped thinking and was completely frozen in the moment. Then, I thought I was going to throw up. I remember just saying "No way, you're joking this is a joke, you're kidding, I'm going to throw up" over and over and over again. I obviously said yes and it was the biggest yes I've ever said. Turns out, those strangers who were talking that I was so embarrassed to be out there with us were actually secret photographers Luke had hired to catch me trying not to throw up in real time...and also to capture the beautiful location and moment that we were in.
& the rest is history. I can't wait to continue to be loved, to laugh, to dick around, to argue, to adventure, to live the rest of my life with Mr. Luke Houston.
