Sam was excellent at keeping secrets—so good, in fact, that Isabela had absolutely no idea what was coming. Two hours before the proposal, she was lounging in her pajamas, crocheting on the couch at the Califano house, blissfully unaware that one of the biggest moments of their lives was about to unfold.

That evening, Isabela and Sam had plans for dinner and to explore the town. When she finally started getting ready just 30 minutes before their departure, Sam told her that she could take as much time as she needed to get ready—words he had never said before. It was at that moment that Isabela knew there was something else going on.

In a rush, she slapped on some press-on nails (priorities, right?), her instincts telling her that tonight might just be the night. As she sat downstairs at the kitchen table, fumbling with the manicure, her hands shook with nervous anticipation. When Mrs. Califano asked if she was okay, she could only respond with, “Izzy is in a tizzy.”

As they walked through RiverTown Park, the sun began to set, and Isabela’s nerves started to settle. That’s when Sam dropped to one knee and asked the big question. Of course, the answer came without hesitation: “YES. A MILLION TIMES YES.”
