So, here’s the story of how I met Iseoluwa Mojolaoluwa Oluwatooni Semiloore Atoke Okunola It was July 27, 2023, in Saskatoon, Canada—yep, I flew all the way from Houston to a place I couldn’t even pronounce correctly at first. After a long flight, I finally arrived at midnight and met some friends at the airport as well. When we got to Saskatoon airport, my best friend started calling me Asake because of my dreads. And that’s how the name Asake started but that’s a story for another day. The next day, the groomsmen had an hangout with the bridesmaid so we can get to know each other. The hangout was at Cactus Club. I tried to make sure everyone felt comfortable (as the best man, obviously, I had to be the life of the party). That’s when I saw her for the first time: Iseoluwa. She sat at the end of the table. She wasn’t talking much, but I didn’t mind. I was busy being the vibe creator and trying to connect everyone. But I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful she was. We didn’t talk during the hangout. It was when we were leaving and she was walking in front of me with her friend, Tomi, that I fully saw the beauty. Immediately she walked in front of me, it was the eyes that captivated me. I did not know when I started sinking deep into those eyes and I have fallen for her before I even realized. Fast forward to the next day: wedding rehearsals. After the rehearsal and everybody was leaving. The ladies wanted to do a transition video so they asked me to take the video for them. Fortunately, it was her phone they used. So I took her phone, put my number there and texted myself so I can have her number. Emi smooth and sharp guy. We sha did the traditional wedding and it was like she used jazz on me cos why was I following this chick that I don’t know from Adam around. I even took some selfie with her phone so that she won’t forget this fine face. She still has those pictures by the way. We got back to the airbnb and I told my guys, be like say I don find the one. Those ones were just laughing. Have good friends around you 😂 they did not believe in me but here we are today. Time for church wedding and pictures with the whole bridal train. I was just looking around finding something or someone. When I finally saw her joined the crew, e shock me ooo. God dey create. Repeat after me God dey create. Is this someone’s child? She just fine anyhow. I was lost for words at the beauty in front of me. The church wedding was amazing. During the worship, I took a glance back to see if aunty was worshipping or just looking cos you know I need my woman to be able to pray. Lo and behold, she don enter spirit. She actually told me she saw me too as I was really worshipping. Me that I was raised in CAC. You no go pray ke 😂. After the church wedding was over and we were walking outside, tell me why was I helping her hold her dress so it doesn't get dirty because it was sweeping the floor. You people will think pe its juju. Me that I be strong man. I no dey catch feelings but I became a soft man 🥹 for this beauty 😍 At the reception, everybody was comfortable with each other. I sha told her friend, Tomi, that I like your friend ooo. She started questioning me. Egbami is this an interrogation ni. I answered her question and that’s how she told me somebody else was eyeing her. HA!!! 🙆🏾‍♂️🙆🏾‍♂️🙆🏾‍♂️ but I was confident in myself and game. I sat close to her during the reception, and we were just talking. Time for bouquet toss, she did not even want to go but me I said she should go and stand. Please tell me why when the bouquet was tossed…why did Iseoluwa catch the bouquet? Is this a joking matter ni? Someone that did not want to be there. That’s how Segunfunmi gave me his pocket square saying I must marry next. Wetin be this? Everything that happened just felt like God was really directing our steps. When I was giving best man speech, I actually mentioned that who knows we might be back in Saskatoon in two years (words are powerful!!!!). After the whole wedding shenanigans, when we were cleaning up, I started spitting small game cos I have to save the rest for later. That’s how Iseoluwa was playing hard to get 😏Are you whining me? I dont think pe she knows my name…the PRIZE! 😁 Segunfunmi also put in a good word for me. The Sunday after the wedding, I was trying to find a way to talk to Iseoluwa and she somehow agreed. I was shocked that she even said yes. Apparently, Lolu, the bride and my bestie, planned the whole thing for us (me and Iseoluwa) to spend time together. We drove to Tim Hortons and sat in the car and spoke for over two hours. The conversation was just smooth and it felt like we’ve known each other for a long time. On Monday before i left for Houston, we had breakfast at Cora and I couldn’t believe it—our conversation was just as easy as the night before Two hours of talking and laughing. I left for the airport that day, told her I’d call her when I got home, and bam—just like that, the long-distance relationship started. Me? Long distance relationship? I could not believe it. For some reason, we just kept talking and talking. Every time FaceTime and we will sleep on the call. I used to hate things like that and even talking on the phone wasn’t really my thing. I prefer texting but the whole thing was just easy. Before you know it, I went to Canada to visit. She came to Houston for her birthday. Then I went to Canada, again and again until I finally thought it was the right time to get on one knee and proposed to Iseoluwa. Here we are now. The story long ooo but all in all, we thank God. This was a marriage that was orchestrated supernaturally and most definitely by God. I call her Ayanfe because she God really chose her for me. Anyways, here is too forever with God at the center.

How I Met My Husband—A Love Story Destined By God not Fate The Setup: A Wedding in Saskatoon It all started on July 27, 2023, in Saskatoon, where I had traveled for our mutual friend’s wedding. I was on the bridesmaid train, and Richard was on the groomsman squad—actually, the best man. That first night, we all met up at Cactus Club for a little “meet and mingle.” Apparently, Richard had his eyes on me all night, but did I notice? Nope. I was on the opposite end of the table, minding my bridesmaid business. As we were leaving, he made some comment that had everyone laughing (I don’t even remember what he said), and that was technically the first time we met. Or rather, the first time he saw me, and I completely ignored his existence. Friday: The Mysterious Number &amp; The Selfie Surprise The next day was rehearsal day at the church. Richard? Loud. Fun. The life of the party. Cracking jokes, making everyone laugh, doing the absolute most. Meanwhile, my phone was being used to capture behind-the-scenes (BTS) moments. Next thing I knew, Richard had sneakily saved his number in my phone as “Richard Best Man”—and had the audacity to text himself.Excuse me?!!!!!!!I saw it later and thought, Who is this one? Abeg, I don’t have time. Did I respond? No. I ignored him completely—until about two days after ☠️☠️.... I mean it was not actually intentional.Later that evening, we got dressed for the engagement party. Since I needed to be hands-free to dance, I had to hand my phone to someone—and of course, Richard was the one person who was super friendly and nice to everyone, so I figured, why not?I gave it to him to HOLD OOOOO ONLY TO HOLD!!!BIG mistake. By the time I got my phone back, I found random selfies of him making faces and sticking out his tongue. It was the audacity for me!!! I went home and told my mom:“Mommy, there’s this strange guy from the wedding—he even took pictures on my phone and well… things I can’t even say here ☠️☠️🥹😂!” Her response? “Don’t talk that way……… and many other things 🫢.” Sigh lol And then I told my aunt as I was given her gist about the wedding and my day? “You’ll be shocked… don’t write him off.” I said bruh what is it with everyone. Me? Not interested. Why? First, he was overly friendly—like, why do you know everybody and their grandmother?! Now, it’s not like I had issues with that, but it just made him seem like one of those guys who was cool with everyone—and honestly, isn’t that what weddings are for? People meeting, mingling, and, let’s be real, trying to get with someone.But me? I wasn’t in that space. Jesus girl, I stand.Second, he had dreads. Now, let me be clear—I don’t hate dreads. They actually look great on people! But for me? It just wasn’t my thing. And… well, other things. Anyway, moving on haha 😂. Saturday: The Persistent Best Man Wedding day arrived, and guess who was everywhere I turned? Yep. Richard. This man followed me around like I was the only bridesmaid in the building. Holding my gown, making jokes, and loudly declaring to everyone: “This is my wife. I have found my wife.” "Sir, please relax!!" 😭I know I’m all that—trust me, I do—but you know, like… chill. 😂Then came the bouquet toss. I had strategically positioned myself at the back (because catching the bouquet was NOT in my plans). Too many people were jumping, diving, and scrambling—and as the steeze and composure queen that I am, I simply could not be found doing all that… stress-free baby girl lifestyle. ✨😌 But somehow, the flowers landed in my hands...Like, LITERALLY LANDED IN MY HANDS. 😭😂 Before I could even process what just happened, the groom had given his pocket square to Richard, and everyone—including the MC—kept saying they were coming back a second time to pick their wife. In my head, I was like “Stop playing…!” I was just standing there like, What kind of matchmaking conspiracy is this?! Are you people okay? Later that evening, Segunfunmi, the groom, tried to put in a good word for Richard. “Ise, Richard is a great guy, you should—” In my head: “My dear, I’m not searching. Please stop trying.” I told Segunfunmi straight up: “I’m not searching.” Meanwhile, my friend Tomi was there telling Richard, “Can you cut your hair? Just asking for a friend.” And Richard? “Yes, I can.” 👀 Sunday: The Accidental Date By Sunday, I finally responded to Richard’s text. (After ghosting him for three days technically ) That afternoon, we were at another friend’s bridal shower when Lolu—Segunfunmi’s wife—tried to hype Richard up to me . We mentioned hanging out since we all go back to our cities soon. Next thing I knew, Lolu had already texted Richard, making it sound like it was a one-on-one hangout. Excuse me?! (In my head). But I figured, It’s just hanging out. What’s the worst that could happen? So, we met at Tim Hortons. And for the first time, we actually talked. And guess what? Everything just… clicked. It felt like we had known each other for years. HOWEVER. Within that conversation, I found reasons why I was still not interested. 😂😂 I later told my aunt, and again, she said, “Don’t write it off, you never know.” Even when I got back home to Edmonton, Alberta, I told my pastor: “Uhm, there was this weird guy, and here’s everything I don’t like about him........” My pastor? “You do know that this this and that…” At that point, I was like, I’m not going to win this battle with anyone, am I? 😭😂 Monday: The Call That Changed Everything Monday was travel day. Richard was leaving Saskatoon. I was also heading back to Edmonton the next day. But before that, we went for breakfast together and talked again. And once again, it felt… natural. When I finally got back home to Edmonton, I was ready to shut my phone off and rest. Then suddenly—FaceTime call. Guess who? Richard. “Who is this weirdo FaceTiming me? Who talks to someone on the phone for the first time and decides to FaceTime like gosh 🙄🙄😝” But one thing about Richard? He was consistent.Very, very consistent. Before I knew it, this guy came to see me… he flew all the way from Houston, Texas to Edmonton Alberta —and let’s just say he couldn’t survive without me and he still cannot survive without me. God really had a hand in this story. He gave me not just what I needed but also what I wanted. Everything flowed not one thing fought against this union!! Everything aligned there's no other way to explain it but God outdid himself!! Everyone—I mean everyone—loved and still loves him! Like, it’s actually impossible to hate the guy!!!! I remember when we went for my mom’s birthday, and I kept getting messages from family saying how they had already thought he was a good and nice person, but after meeting him in person? They fell in love with him even more! At this point, I had to accept—this man is a literal people magnet. 😂💛 I wish I could write the FULL story, but for now, you get a snippet. And well… the rest is history. He got himself the best—Gold at its finest. 😝😝😝Richy baby you’re welcome!!! 👀🤣 To a love ordained by God…..To my prayer warriorTHE MAN amongst men… Asake baby😝🫢🥰🥰 Here’s to a three fold chord that cannot be broken.
