History has called it (with all reason) the Jewel in the crown of the Caribbean, Cartagena de Indias has all the ingredients to be the ultimate destination.
Founded in 1533, the vast riches plundered by Spanish colonists turned the piedra corralina (the coral stone) into the most breathtaking city in the New World. Fast-forward 470 years and today Cartagena's unrivalled colonial architecture provides a stunning backdrop to one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the Americas.
There's more to the city than just the picturesque streets. Each corner of 'La Heroica' - as the city became known for its rich history of resistance and rebellion - hides a cultural treasure ready to be uncovered.
Dive into the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean in the Rosario Islands, soak up the contemporary aspirations of Bocagrande and Castillogrande, savour the sublime beauty and ultimate in luxury of the old town or cast off all your worries in the five-star beach-front resorts to the north of the city. Explore Basurto, the colourful market that sits in the shadow of the city's air-conditioned shopping centre, Caribe Plaza, or immerse yourself in the music that streams from sound systems sat on nearly every street corner of the city's most traditional barrio, Getsemani.
Cartagena has something for everyone and throws up a new reason to celebrate this wonderful city every day.
From festivals for writers, artists, filmmakers, clothes designers, musicians and architects to regional summits and inspirational leaders speaking at international conferences dedicated to every field of social and economic activity. Cartagena and its warm and wonderful people welcome everyone with their arms wide open.
If you haven't been yet, GO!
If you are already there, STAY!
Cartagena offers amenities for lodging depending on the interest of the traveler.
The location of the club is on the outskirts (via Barranquilla – way further right of the map) so we recommend finding apartments or hotels in the city to be closer to the sites of interest and access to means of transportation.
The area closest to the club is called "La Boquilla"; here you can find several resorts with beach access. To spend a few days and rest under the sun, this is the most recommended area given its "almost private" condition (less crowded and without so many street vendors). Here you will find several exclusive buildings with apartments that are rented and have very good facilities.
For those who prefer hotels, you can find Sonesta, Holiday Inn, Las Americas, Vista Marina, among others.
If the plan is more cultural, tourist and gastronomic, you can choose hotels or hostels within the walled city (old town) of different categories and prices, such as Sofitel Santa Clara, Santa Teresa, NH Collection, Don Pedro de Heredia, Casa del Arzobispado or El Marquis.
The most touristy and crowded area is "Bocagrande", where you will find the largest hotel offer. It is the center of the tourist activity and public beaches of the city. There you will find hotels like Caribe, Almirante, Intercontinental, Capilla del Mar, Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Decameron, Cartagena Plaza, etc.
Also, the area of "El Laguito" has many facilities and cheap apartments. It is very close to Bocagrande and has very good access facilities, supermarkets, pharmacies, etc. Here you can find hotels like Dann Cartagena, Hilton or Estelar Oceania. While it is the most distant area from the club, it is highly recommended for its amenities; however, the beaches are a bit distant.
Either way, Airbnb will always be an option for the area you choose (you can also consider "Marbella" or "El Cabrero"). In previous occasions, we have had the help of a person in Cartagena who can provide information and different apartments that fit the budget, mainly in the area of El Laguito.
