In the midst of the pandemic in 2020, life felt uncertain and unpredictable. But even in those challenging times, serendipity had a plan for us. We met on Bumble, and our connection was instant. Our first date was on September 13th at Chainyard Cidery in the North End of Halifax. What was meant to be a casual evening turned into hours of conversation, laughter, and getting to know each other.

Just two and a half weeks later, Hayleigh suggested a day trip to go apple picking in the Valley. On September 27th, J.K. arrived at the Butcher household to pick her up. Little did J.K. know that he was about to meet Hayleigh's parents—and her dog, Gemma—all within the first five minutes of arriving. Thrown into the deep end, J.K. handled it with true MacAdam charm.

During the mini road trip, J.K. played a playlist titled "Hayleigh's Music Test," full of songs he hoped she'd know. Hayleigh, however, failed miserably, especially when she didn't recognize Fall Out Boy, much to J.K.'s horror. The twist was that these songs were arranged in a way that would lead up to him asking Hayleigh to be his girlfriend. When his original plan didn't quite go as expected, J.K. had to pivot.

After a wonderful day of apple picking and lunch at Lightfoot & Wolfville Vineyards, J.K. explained his plan (several times actually because Hayleigh didn't catch on immediately). It was one of the sweetest gestures Hayleigh had ever experienced. And that day was when they officially became boyfriend & girlfriend.

When it was discovered that Hayleigh's dad, Andrew, was sick, Hayleigh wanted to create cherished memories and decided to book family photos. Sadly, Andrew passed away just a week and a half before the scheduled pictures. However, it was important for everyone to proceed with the family photos, honouring Andrew's memory. Unbeknownst to Hayleigh, J.K. had a plan. A few days before Andrew's passing, J.K. sat with him to get his blessing to propose. Andrew saw the ring and was overjoyed, giving his heartfelt approval. Then, on May 9th, 2024, in the evening of what felt like the coldest, rainiest day in May, J.K. got on one knee and proposed to Hayleigh. Even though it took her more than 10 seconds to respond due to pure shock, she of course said yes!

J.K. & Hayleigh had discussed with Andrew their desire to not rush things because of his illness. While he agreed, they wanted their wedding day to be meaningful in every possible way. That's why on May 24th, 2025, J.K. and Hayleigh will share their wedding on what would have been Hayleigh's parents' 30th wedding anniversary, creating a day full of love, memories, and significance.

Since 2020, Lightfoot & Wolfville has held a special place in our hearts. We've returned many times, cherishing the memories of that perfect day. It feels only fitting that we take this next step in our journey together at the place where it all began.
