Located in the Colorado Rockies, Crested Butte is a historic mountain town known for its outdoor culture, colorful streets, and relaxed, down-to-earth feel.
Elevation: CB sits at 8,900ft above sea level. This means DRINK WATER, bring sunglasses, wear sun protection! It also means you get drunk much faster, soooo just be wise.
Weather: In late June, weather is typically mild and sunny during the day (highs in the 60s–70s and 80s), with cooler evenings and occasional afternoon showers — layers are recommended.
Culture: Crested Butte is beloved for its wildflowers, extensive trail system, mountain biking, and strong local community. While it offers great food, lodging, and amenities, it remains humble and outdoors-focused, with an emphasis on nature, comfort, and time together.
Mountain towns thrive on seasonal workers and some summers have less help and summers are BUSY! We ask that you have patience with locals if things are slower. It's part of the reason we love it!

There are SOOO many amazing places for any type of camping in this area!
Some of our favorites spots that are first come first serve and usually $10 per day per site these can be accessed with most vehicles but higher clearance is recommended:
- River Flats Campground (15 min up Slate River Road)
- Oh Be Joyful Campground (20 min up Slate River Road)
- Taylor Park Reservoir (1 hour drive to CB but worth it)
More remote options are:
- Take Washington Gulch Road (811), Slate River Road (734), or Gothic Road(317) all the way to Emerald Lake or Schofield Pass. These are very remote and AWD High clearance or 4X4 is ABSOLUTELY necessary. You will find numerous and amazing sites along the way!
