Our Wedding

Our story

Our story is a bit unconventional, and we definitely did things out of order. We first met in 2022 when we started nursing school and quickly became great friends. That friendship lasted throughout school and only grew stronger when Jack encouraged Ashley to take a job in the same department and hospital as him.Not long after, Ashley’s car broke down, and Jack offered to carpool to and from work. This meant she was now on Jack’s schedule, which included run club, breweries, hikes, country swing dancing, and syncing up their work shifts—otherwise, she’d be stuck at home without a car. Before long, Ashley started staying in Jack’s guest room on workdays to avoid the hour-long commute back to her apartment. All that extra time together brought us even closer.Ashley patiently tolerated Jack’s never-ending home renovations, and Jack enjoyed having her around as their friendship deepened. Soon, Ashley’s family started inviting Jack to holiday parties and bringing him along on hiking, camping, and climbing trips. Casual hangouts naturally turned into dates, and as we synced up as best friends and partners, even our swing dancing got better.We officially started dating, and 10 months later, just after Jack proposed, Ashley finally got her original car fixed (the timing seemed a bit suspicious!).P.S. Ashley would like to note that she did buy a newer car somewhere along the way, so we weren’t carpooling the whole 10 months—but her original truck stayed in the shop for the entirety of our dating story and was only fixed right after the proposal!

Travel - We'd love to keep the group together as much as possible as we think this will foster the most fun - but SLC has plenty of options for accommodations on any budget and our venue is close enough to the city & the airport that transportation should not be an issue! The Hotels below are all in the same city block and a short drive to the venue (and to some of our favorite hikes).  As far as driving, Ubers are super available, the airport is a 15 minute drive, and we will have Uber vouchers to and from the venue on the day of the wedding. We figured this would allow people to arrive and leave whenever they’re ready from wherever they choose to stay, enjoy the open bar as much as they choose, and get to their next destinations safely.

Use the above link to access the room block. 10-15 minute drive to the venue, Ubers are highly recommended. We are working to figure out a shuttle bus. **This one has an outdoor pool**

Hyatt Place Salt Lake City/Cottonwood

Directly next door to the other hotel in the event that one books up. Current block rate is 139 but it is not locked in and might change. 10-15 minutes to the airport and to the venue. Ubers are highly available and recommended for the event itself.

Hampton Inn Salt Lake City Cottonwood

No room block available, but also in the same area as the other two hotels.

3.5 miles roundtrip, leads to a small cave with a waterfall coming through the ceiling.

Donut Falls Summer Trailhead

4.8 mile steep grade hike to the falls OR 1.5 mile roundtrip hike to the reservoir

Bell Canyon Waterfall

8 Mile steep hike to alpine lake. Gorgeous views along the way, one of our favorites.

Red Pine Trailhead

Flat boardwalk around picturesque lake (see our photos).

Silver Lake - Big Cottonwood Canyon

Have an extra day on an end of your trip? Arches, Moab, Canyonlands, and Bryce Canyon are all just a 4 hour drive away and can be visited together (same area). Zion (our favorite) is in the other corner but also a 4 hour drive. THESE ARE ALL DESERT IN AUGUST HOT/SUNNY BRING WATER/SUNSCREEEN

Giant outdoor pool, waterslides, rocks - all water is between 80 and 110 degrees from natural hot spring.  Very relaxing but also some fun stuff for the kids.
