It was the fall of 2020. Anna and Jack had just graduated from high school that summer, navigating the unique challenges of a world shaped by COVID-19. With the pandemic still in full swing, they found themselves moving into their new college dorms, saying goodbye to their families in an environment unlike any other. Freshman events were severely limited due to social distancing, but the freshman class determined to make the most of the situation took matters into their own hands, even if not everyone was on board.
A nightly tradition soon formed on Baylor University’s Fountain Mall, the central gathering spot on campus. Despite the restrictions, students found ways to connect, meet new faces, and form friendships, albeit with little caution and defiance of the rules.
On August 19, 2020, Anna and Jack found themselves among a group of freshmen on Fountain Mall. It was here, amid the chatter and laughter of newfound friends, that their paths crossed for the first time. As the night unfolded, the group decided to make a late night pilgrimage to Whataburger, a Texas staple that was a must-try for anyone new to the state.
Anna and Jack, both hailing from outside Texas, were eager to experience the famed Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. The excitement was palpable as they waited in line, swapping stories about their out of state origins. It was during this late night run that Jack learned a key detail about Anna: the next day was her birthday.
After the group devoured their Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits and fries both of them, to the dismay of many proud Texans, agreeing that the meal was less than spectacular they made their way back to campus. Jack discovered that Anna’s dorm was right next to his. Seizing the opportunity, Jack offered to walk her back.
When they reached her dorm, Jack, eager to spend more time with Anna, asked if she’d like to grab coffee the next day for her birthday. Anna, smiling, agreed.
The following morning, they spent hours at a local coffee shop, talking about everything and nothing at all. It was during that conversation full of shared stories and laughter that a bond began to form, one that would grow stronger with time, eventually becoming something neither of them could have imagined that night on Fountain Mall.
Throughout the rest of their first semester of college, Anna and Jack continued to grow closer and get to know one another. Then, on January 23rd, Jack decided it was time to take their connection to the next level and asked Anna to be his girlfriend.
Over the next three and a half years, their relationship deepened in love for each other and in faith. Together, they grew closer to the Lord and built a strong foundation for their future.
Now, we are excited to share their love with all of you friends and family who have supported them along the way on September 27th, 2025.
