John moved from Boston to North Carolina to begin a new job on May 5, 2014. After settling into his new home, he returned to Cape Cod to visit his family for the 4th of July. While visiting his family, John's college roommate, Jon, invited him to a BBQ near his parents' cape house. John said he did not want to waste time meeting people he'd never see again. His time was limited and he wanted to spend it with the people he loved but he was eventually convinced to stop by the BBQ for a brief period before the entire group headed to Mayflower beach where his family was spending the day.Meanwhile, Jackie's parents were in Aruba for a wedding and said she and her siblings could stay at their cape house and invite their friends so they were outside grilling, listening to music, playing lawn games and enjoying the nice weather. One of the people there was Jackie's roommate and friend, Emily, who was dating John's college roommate.John was dropped off at Jackie's house by his dad and spent the first part of the day with Jon, Jackie's brother and the other guys. Everyone was having fun at the BBQ and John never made it to Mayflower beach. After a long afternoon of festivities, it was time for John to go home to have dinner with his family and for the rest of the crew to go to Hyannis for dinner and fireworks. Jackie was the first one ready so while the rest of the group prepared for the night, she went out on the porch to keep John company. John and Jackie had their first conversation on the back porch and the fuse was lit; fireworks would soon follow (John insisted we use that line in this story…).After a serious conversation about Jim Plunket's happy hour at the Improper Bostonian, the conversation switched to lighter topics, like religion, family and past relationships. They thought they would only have 5-10 minutes together but ended up talking for an hour. The group packed into Emily's car and left for Hyannis, dropping John off on the way out. When John got home he told his whole family about the girl he just met. He recognized they had a special connection and had to see her again before he left. John went into Hyannis and he and Jackie built on the connection they had earlier that day. They shared their first kiss that night and the rest is history.

How we met

John told Jackie he was flying up from NC on Friday and she took a half day at work to pick him up at the airport. He actually had flown in the night before and planned to surprise her with the proposal. His flight on Thursday night was a nightmare and he ended up missing his connection in LaGuardia and was stuck in NY without a way to get to Boston. At 11:30 at night he rented a car and made the 4 hour trip to Boston.The next day, he sent flowers to Jackie's work with a card that said, "Jackie, I can't wait to see you! If you get offered a ride, you should take it. Love, John." Jackie was confused by the note but was excited about the surprise and beautiful flowers. Around the same time, she got a message from her friend Lauren at work saying she wanted to walk out with Jackie to talk about something. Really, she was just helping make sure that when Jackie went out the door, she saw that there was a town car waiting for her. The town car had a special song playing on repeat and John had left a letter for Jackie that explained that he had actually flown in the night before!The car drove over to Jackie's favorite street in Boston, Comm Ave at the Fairfield intersection where John was waiting dressed up in a suit. He expected that Jackie would get out of the car with tears in her eyes, knowing what was about to happen but instead she hopped out, excited to see him, thanking him for the lovely flowers and trying to get him to come see the snazzy car she came over in. John eventually got Jackie to come over to where he was and said he wanted to ask her a question. Still somehow completely oblivious, Jackie said "Sure, what's up?" John then dropped to his knee and asked her to marry him. She said YES!The two hopped back in the town car and drank champagne while trying to decide where they should go to celebrate (or so Jackie thought). They decided to go to Top of the Hub. John had organized for their families to meet them there for a second part of the surprise! She was completely shocked again. They all had lunch and champagne and then John and Jackie headed to an inn outside of the city to continue the amazing weekend.

Transportation

Buses available

Luxury buses will be available to transport guests to the ceremony and/or reception.Option 1 (To ceremony and reception): Buses arrive at the Nantasket Beach Resort to bring guests to the ceremony at 12:30pm and will pick them up at the church at 3:00 to transport them to the Red Lion Inn after the ceremonyOption 2 (To reception only): For guests who would like to check in at the Nantasket Beach Resort after the ceremony, buses arrive at Nantasket Beach Resort to bring guests to the reception at the Red Lion Inn at 4:45 (it's less than a 15 minute ride so you should make it just in time for cocktail hour)There will also be a continuous shuttle to the Nantasket Beach Resort after the reception from 9:30pm-1:30am

Driving instead?

There is a parking lot behind Gate of Heaven church on East Fifth Street. Please arrive promptly by 1:45.Red Lion Inn has a free town parking lot. If you go into the inn entrance and pass the front door of the inn on your left you will see the parking lot on your right.

Emily and Jackie were roommates for 2 years and became very close friends during that time. Emily is dating Jon, who was John's college roommate and one of his closest friends. Emily and Jon introduced Jackie and Jon so they are excited to have them both as members of the wedding party.
