When people ask how we met, I like to say that the first time I met Jake was in the backseat of his car and the only thing I saw of him was the back of his head. In reality, Jake and I met on June 8, 2023, when we all went to Sioux Falls for his sister, Ruth's, wedding. We spent the weekend celebrating his sister and feeling a connection spark between us. Two weeks later, at a not so subtle set up, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of board games and good food with his parents. Jake asked me out shortly after that afternoon, and we shared a wonderful first date playing mini golf on the roof of the Walker Center. We then spent a wonderful summer together before taking a brief break over the holidays. After taking some time to focus on ourselves, we decided to reconnect and resume a relationship together. We have been inseparable ever since. On December 7, 2024, Jake decided to take me on a wonderful date filled with watching the Nutcracker ballet, eating at the restaurant from our first date, and then finally an evening stroll through the Sculpture Garden at the Walker Center where he finally asked me to marry him. We have since spent the following months balancing a career change, graduating college, and planning our dream wedding when we can finally begin our life together as husband and wife.
