We are incredibly thankful that you decided to be here with us today! You have shaped us into more godly people and we are blessed to call you friends.
We first met reluctantly on June 3, 2023 thanks to the persistence of Kathy Green and Laurie’s mom Karen. It was a classic setup.
The setting - Laurie’s sister, Carrie, was getting married to Jacob’s friend Matt. It was joyous day! Every one of the guests dressed so nicely, the bride and groom looked their best and the venue was decorated elegantly.
After the ceremony, Jacob caught up with Matt’s mom Kathy who invited him to their table for the dinner. Whilst they dined, Kathy introduced Jacob to Karen (Laurie’s mom) and learned he was STILL single and strongly suggested he meet some of the available ladies. Jacob reluctantly agreed after Kathy insisted (she’s an exceptionally gifted negotiator). When the dancing began, Kathy asked, “Are you ready?” And off they went to find love.
While Kathy helped Jacob make new connections, Karen went to find Laurie. And their interaction went something like…
Karen: “I want to introduce you to someone.”
Laurie: “Who is it?”
**Karen points to Jacob who is mid-speed date**
Laurie: “I don’t want to talk to someone else.”
Karen: “It’s not like that.”
Laurie: “Fine.”
When Karen finally convinced Laurie, we talked for a few minutes, exchanged pleasantries, discussed our summers and were just in time to send the married couple off to their honeymoon. The evening festivities ended, everyone said their goodbyes, and Jacob drove home with Laurie on his mind. A day later Jacob reached out to Laurie and they agreed to a proper date a month later in Portland, Oregon (both of us happened to be passing through the area on the same weekend). And it was a success!
Over the next 14 months we spent a lot of time calling, texting, trying our best to make the most of the time we had together. We can’t help but laugh at ourselves and the joy it has been to go from reluctant strangers at a wedding to best friends. We are so excited for November 17th to arrive!
