I've known Jake for nearly 20 years. Our families have been close friends since they moved from Minnesota in 2002. We grew up attending the same church, elementary, middle, and high schools, and often spent holidays together. Our paths crossed frequently over the years, but nothing other than friendship until Jake's last semester at St. Norbert. He is admittedly horrible at flirting, so the majority of our contact was intermittent and casual. He eventually made plans to visit me taking the S.S. Badger Ferry Boat across Lake Michigan. We spent that weekend exploring Grand Rapids. A fond memory of that weekend was the hot yoga session I took Jake to. I've never seen anyone sweat as much as he did in that 60-minute class. We decided over one too many kamikazes and Manhattans that we should probably date. And so we did...for a little bit. We broke up for a short time because long distance was hard. Jake once drove 15 hours straight to take me home for Christmas when my car died in Grand Rapids. Through treacherous snowstorms, Chicagoland traffic jams, and red-eye S.S. Badger trips, we visited each other nearly every other weekend for about 2 years. I've paid the Illinois Tollway an embarrassing amount of money in tolls and subsequent fines over the years. After one meet-in-the-middle trip to Chicago, we decided it was about time we move in together. I quit my job in Grand Rapids and accepted a position at a law firm in Green Bay. I lived with Jake and his friend, Sean, for a year until we moved into our own place. Jake proposed to me in January 2019 on the blue bridge in Grand Rapids. He later told me he had kept my engagement ring in a Jonny Walker Scotch box for several months before proposing - good thing I didn't throw it away! We have undeniable chemistry and learn from each other every day. I can't wait to marry him!

Our story first starts back in 2002 when we first met at Bethany Lutheran Church in Republic after my family moved there for my mother to be the new pastor. I was 8 and she was 6 so it is safe to say that it was not love at first sight. Our families became close through the church which led to many campfires, parties, and family gatherings together; even Thanksgivings. We both went through an awkward phase, myself especially- big teeth, Harry Potter glasses, and Hawaiian shirts to name a few. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Fast forward to the summer of 2015. I was in between by Junior and Senior year of college at St. Norbert in De Pere, WI and she was over in Michigan going into her Sophomore year at Davenport University. I am not sure how the texting started, but we texted on an off for quite some time. She was dating another man, so I was treading a line of flirting and casual conversation, leaning more towards flirting after a few drinks. Due to its subtle nature, she had no idea I was flirting at all, plus she was in the relationship still so I did my best to respect it.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Seeing there was true potential for a romantic relationship with her started New Year’s Eve 2015. My father and I could not remember her boyfriend’s name and that became the running joke of the night. We continued to flirt until we both went outside to get some air. I did not act on my feelings since she was in a relationship, so our relationship was still as friends.We joked for months about me taking the ferry, the “S.S. Badger” across Lake Michigan to visit her, and after my college graduation I did it. Clearly my subtle flirting came back to bite me as she did not think there were any romantic intentions behind me traveling 600 miles to visit her. However, after we began talking I mustered enough courage to tell her how I felt.The long distance proved difficult. We ended the relationship mutually a few months later. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise for us as the pressure was no longer there and interactions became more natural. Our true courtship had begun.She invited me to go to the annual Nutcracker Ballet in Grand Rapids that December and I happily accepted. I drove through one of the biggest snowstorms that year in order to make it, but it was entirely worth it. It was the best date of my life. The final straw that rekindled the fire was before Christmas. Her car had broke down so she could not drive home. Drove the 6 hours to her, then drove the additional 8 hours home with her. We re-started our relationship that same Christmas.We did long distance for two years. Two whole years of us taking turns driving around Lake Michigan. Needless to say we were both crazy in love. We had our fair share of issues maintaining the long distance, but we made it work. She made the leap to move to Green Bay which I will forever be grateful for. She gave up so much to be closer to me. I proposed 9 months later in January of 2019 in Grand Rapids. She is the love of my life and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with her.&nbsp;
