Things To Do

Brought to you by Colton Machado

--- Nature ---

Twin Falls is situated directly center of the Idaho high desert Snake River Basin. The area is known for its agricultural farms that span from the Sawtooth Mountains to the north Nevada Mountains. But Twin Falls's most notable feature is the Snake River Canyon. From grand 500ft. cliffs to massive waterfalls, Twin Falls offers several natural wonders all within a 20-minute drive from the city center.

Shoshone Falls

"The Niagra of the West" -- Idaho's largest waterfall is located in Twin Falls. Just 10 minutes east of the city, deep in the canyon, the Snake River flows over a 212 ft. cliff creating an incredible waterfall. The waterfall is accessible via an overlook at Shoshone Falls Park ($5 per car) or, for the adventurous, a 2hr. kayak trip.

Perrine Coulee Falls

One of the most iconic waterfalls of Southern Idaho is right next to the wedding reception venue. When heading to the golf course, you'll start descending down the grade into the canyon. Before the first switchback, you will see a few parking spots on the left side. Park there, hop the cement barrier, and find a trail that will take you directly underneath the 200ft. Perrine Coulee Falls as it cascades over the canyon rim.

Perrine Bridge

Highway 93 enters the north side of Twin Falls via a 486 ft. bridge over the Snake River Canyon. On the Twin Falls side of the bridge, you can find the Twin Falls visitor center with an overlook into the canyon. There are pedestrian paths on either side of the bridge which will allow anyone to cross by foot and get a view of the canyon below. If you are lucky, you will even get to see base jumpers jumping from the bridge into the depths below.

Pillar Falls

Not as much a falls as it is a rock formation that creates a natural land bridge across the Snake River. Pillar Falls is accessible via a steep trail, dropping 600ft. from the canyon rim to the river below. The path walks along a staircase waterfall. Poison Ivy is common on this trail. Pillar Falls has several areas only accessible through crossing shallow water (2-7 inches deep). Pillar Falls is also accessible by an hour kayak trip up the Snake River.

Box Canyon

37 minutes from Twin Falls, near Buhl (where the parents of the bride live) is a great canyon with a natural blue spring. The canyon has an hour-long trail that includes a descent into the canyon, a waterfall, and a crystal-clear pool that you can swim in. For a better idea of what the trail includes, check the Machado family's hike from the Spring of 2023: https://youtu.be/hS6q2RMPOYc
