It all started on a rock in the middle of the Pacific...

We met In Kona, Hawaii, where we were on staff at Youth with a Mission. Only knowing each other through mutual friends, we had never really had a conversation, but In November of 2022, it all changed. We were put together as Co-leaders in charge of planning a 3 month outreach in the coming spring of 2023. Little did we know, this was just the beginning of something greater than we would have ever imagined.

Because we didn't know much about each other, we had to build a friendship from the ground up. We became friends very quickly, mainly because our friendship revolved around 3 great things: Jesus, Coffee, and the Gym. Although much of our early friendship was spent in an office working on spreadsheets or creating a budget for our missions trip, we always found a way to make the best of it.

April of 2023, we left the Big Island & hopped right over to Kauai, where we would spend the first month of our outreach.

Throughout our time there, we became closer friends, and we thought it would be wise to have a conversation about our feelings for one another and where we both stood. Unfortunately, the feelings were not mutual at the time. About 2 weeks later, in Oahu, I (Jake) had realized that I truly did have feelings for Cheyenne. I told her, and we discussed further that it would be wise to wait until the end of our outreach to begin dating.

June 1st, 2023, we officially became a couple. We hadn't really been on an official date, but we knew that we both were in love.

As our outreach ended mid June, we both had already planned to go home. Cheyenne to Boise, Jake to California. We were nervous that our relationship wouldn't last due to the distance, but we also knew that God had a plan....

In July, we reunited after about a month apart. We had been praying about the future of our relationship and what God wanted of us, and that's when we felt an invitation from the Lord to move to Kauai and be apart of what He was doing there. Although we had only been dating for just about 2 months, we packed our bags and hopped on a flight to Kauai.

Not being married made this a bit more challenging, but we knew that the Lord would provide. Within a few days before landing in Kauai, We both had friends offer up individual places to stay and cars to drive, and within 2 weeks we both had jobs and permanent places to live! This isn't necessarily part of our "love story" but this is however is just as important to us because it was the first of many times where we were able to see God's favor in our lives.

As we journeyed through our time in Kauai, we were able to make so many amazing memories. We surfed, hiked, went camping on the beach with friends, and spent countless nights hanging out with dear friends talking about life.

Our time on the island was well spent, and we couldn't have chose a better place to spend the first year of our relationship.

After talking and praying about our future plans, we decided that our time on Kauai was coming to a close. We had many conversations and as spring time rolled around, we knew we were ready to take the next step in our relationship. It was only fitting to get engaged where we first fell in love. So on June 13th, 2024 we got engaged and a few days later moved off the island.
