Airbnb is an awesome option for staying in this area. This is where you can find dog friendly accommodations. Be aware that most households in this area do not have air conditioning. This being said, it does cool down in the evening, so opening the windows and allowing the cool night air to come in will work just fine for those who are apprehensive.

If you choose to travel by train or plane there is not many options to get you the rest of the way. There is rental car services in that area or you could try booking an Uber or Lyft. Unfortunately Uber and Lyft are not very common in our area, but it might be possible if you book one ahead of time.
