Our Wedding

In short: a Brooklyn boy was brought across the Hudson by a New Jersey girl... and the rest is history. But do you want to hear the long version? Okay, take a seat. Nicole and Jake met five years ago at a bar in Manhattan where it was an instant connection and Nicole was hooked by his good looks, charm and wit (this is written by Jake, by the way, but it's true nonetheless.) Even though they led different lives -- Nicole was working in an emergency room and Jake on political campaigns -- they found common ground in their shared values despite any surface-level differences. Fast forward over five years later, they share a cute apartment in Hoboken, have the best (but slightly chaotic) orange cat named Cheez-It and are so excited to share their lives together no matter where they end up. We hope you can join us as we start the next chapter of the Jake and Nicole story in Montclair next May!

The Story of Jake and Nicole (as written by Jake)

After some witty repartee on Hinge about brie cheese, Jake and Nicole decided to meet for the first time at the Library Bar in NYC on a rainy, cold October night. They talked Star Wars, politics, and somehow Nicole found Jake’s uncanny ability to recite the US presidents in order very cute (albeit dorky.) They very quickly made plans to see each other again as Jake had become completely enamored with Nicole’s beauty, wit, and pure genius (his words not mine, just ask him!) and well… now you’re here, reading about their wedding! Over the course of 5 wonderful years, their relationship grew, they moved to Hoboken (because we’re from Jersey, baby! The best state!) and adopted their beloved ginger cat Cheez-It. Very different from each other on paper, the love they feel for one another and the values they share have created a strong foundation for what they hope will be a lifetime of love, respect, and happiness. Thank you for being here and thank you for sharing in our happiness. We are so grateful to have found each other and a community of people who support us. We can’t wait to celebrate our marriage with you in Montclair, NJ this coming May!

The Story of Nicole and Jake (as written by Nicole)

It was a sunny but cold Halloween in 2021. I was just a kitten and recently neutered. I was hoping to be adopted by a hip attractive couple, but Jake and Nicole showed up. Over the years, they have grown on me since I’ve learned to lower my expectations. They’ve always provided me with a full food bowl and clean litter box so I can’t complain. Quite frankly, I’m surprised Nicole said yes when Jake asked her to marry him but I guess it’s cool. Hope you all have fun partying without me. In all honesty, I happen to enjoy their company and I hope they bring me back treats after the wedding. Purr a drink out for me in my honor!

If you are coming from New York City, you can take NJ Transit from Penn Station to the Montclair Heights station in about 45 minutes. From there it is a 10 minute uber to the museum.

Public Transportation (NJ & NY)

You can park at the museum on Friday overnight. Just make sure to pick up your car on Saturday!

A great movie theater showing independent films! They have a film festival every year with filmmakers and hosted by Stephen Colbert.

One of Jake and Nicole's first dates was at this beautiful historic park in New Jersey. And only 20 minutes away from Montclair, so a quick afternoon adventure!

Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park

This is a great park where you can see and visit the Statue of Liberty. Right down the street is Liberty Science Center which is a great interactive museum for kids of all ages.

Liberty State Park

This amazing waterfront in Hoboken (where Jake and Nicole live) has an amazing view of New York City, playgrounds and is near a lot of great restaurants.

American Museum of Natural History

The home of one of Jake, Nicole, and their families' favorite restaurants, Casa D'Angelo. Little Italy is small but has a lot of great food, including Nicole's favorite dessert: the white chocolate raspberry ribbon cake at Ferrara's!

Besides being a great park in the heart of lower Manhattan it is also the "campus" of New York University, where Jake went to college and spend countless hours in this park.

The Pittsburgh Cookie Table, a western Pennsylvania tradition, is believed to have originated during the Great Depression. Pittsburghers struggled, but love persisted. When couples who married could not afford a wedding cake, mothers, grandmothers and extended family baked cookies from scratch with recipes passed down through the generations.
