The Pittsburgh Cookie Table, a western Pennsylvania tradition, is believed to have originated during the Great Depression. Pittsburghers struggled, but love persisted. When couples who married could not afford a wedding cake, mothers, grandmothers and extended family baked cookies from scratch with recipes passed down through the generations.
