Our Story

Would You Help Me Bathe My Patient?

Our sweet story all starts in October of 2023 when I asked Jake to help bathe my patient while I so happened to be working on his floor. He kindly said yes, and during the bed bath, proceeded to ask me all sorts of get to know you questions, mind you, in front of my very alert and oriented patient. I was definitely excited that this cute boy was helping me with my patient and asking me questions about why I became a nurse and what brought me to Chattanooga. Needless to say, he had me smitten pretty early on! He then became known as the cute IMCU boy to my friends and I. Fast forward to January, I was once again floated to work on his floor. I of course asked him about his relationship with the Lord and invited him to come check out my church if he was ever interested, to which his answer was, “what time does service start?”. I was so nervous that Sunday, for the first time in my life, I got there 10 minutes early. Two weeks later, Jake reached out to me about a class we both had to take for work. He informed me that he was moving from night shift to day shift. I gathered up the courage to tell him that I was going to miss our work shenanigans, to which he replied that he would love to hang out outside of work and asked if I wanted to get coffee and go on a hike. Our first date lasted 12 hours! We just enjoyed each others company so much, that coffee and a hike turned into going to dinner, walking the bridge downtown, getting desert, and watching a movie. I was pretty nervous at first (I made sure Jake knew my girls were watching my location in case he was secretly a murderer), but time passed so quickly, I forgot all about my nerves! After the first few dates, I knew Jake was going to be around for the long haul.
We both fell in love pretty fast as we discussed our faith, interests, hobbies, family dynamics, life goals, etc., realizing we were on the same page for almost all of it. I prayed hard for the Lord to do His will and if Jake was the one, to make it obvious. By the good, good grace of the Lord, I was praying one day about it all, and He gave me a deep sense of peace that told me Jake was the one. From that point forward, I have only ever had peace about us, and I continue to praise God for his kindness in bringing Jake to me!
Since then, Ive gotten to see how the Lord has worked on Jakes heart, changing it to look more like Christ. He is the most kind, thoughtful, service-oriented, loving, patient, genuine, and selfless man I have ever met. It has been the sweetest experience to have the passenger seat in Jakes life thus far, and I am looking forward to the privilege of having that seat for the rest of our lives!
I ask that you pray with us and for us as we continue to seek the Lord’s heart for our lives, that we can bring glory to His name through our marriage. We’re so excited to see where He takes us!

Absolutely I will!

Of all the ways you imagine you will meet your wife, helping give a grown human a bath is not quite what most people have in mind, but that’s where this story begins! The very first time Megan came to work on my unit I couldn’t help but notice how cute she was, so when she asked for help finishing her patient’s bath I did not hesitate. Despite her patient being fully aware I took the opportunity to get to know a little more about her. Although the bath took 15 minutes to finish, there was more I needed to know about this cute nurse from the MICU. Over the next three months, I would try my best to get whatever short moments I could with her at work, whether it was her floating to my floor, or going next door because “IMCU ran out of washcloths…” Then the Lord answered a prayer I had prayed many times, to show me the way to a woman who sought Him, keeping Him present in all things and looking for a love that is filled with Christ. Megan invited me to attend church with her four months after we met, and I got to see first hand just how much of her life revolves around the Lord. It was so refreshing to see a beautiful young woman worship with her whole heart and actively pursue her walk with the Lord. Nerves got the best of me for the next two weeks, until I saw Megan’s name on a class list for work and my the Lord gave me all the courage I needed. Not only did I text her about the class, I proceeded to text her during the entire class. When mentioning my transition from days to nights she told me she would miss is seeing each other at work. The great thing was I had just the solution, we should see each other outside of work! And that we did. A few days later, after much anticipation, I saved my best first date for my last one. From the start, to this very day, spending time with Megan is so effortless. We have enjoyed each others company every step of the way, sharing faith, family, friends, and fun. It became very clear to me after awhile that Megan was not the type of girl the Lord puts in your life temporarily. He answered my prayers to give me someone who makes me want to be like Him, to serve others, and to pursue holiness in everything I do. The Lord did not send me a girlfriend, He sent me a wife. Needless to say, as with all blessings, I have been the happiest I have ever been since.
