Our Wedding

Jake and I met at Simpson College in 2018. I went over to my friend Quinn's room to hang out on a Saturday night and saw Jake for the very first time. Now, if you know me, you know I am generally not a shy person, so it took all of 15 minutes before I went over and introduced myself. We sat and talked for a while during which Jake learned I was majoring in mathematics, he then decided to tell me about his economics class for the next half hour. Even though, I am not super into economics, I really enjoyed getting to know him that night and the rest is history. We spent the first year of our relationship at Simpson College, spending every lunch together and every weekend. We always had stuff to talk about and I could tell very quickly that we were a good pair. The next two years would be a challenge though. I went off to the University of Iowa to get my masters while Jake finished his degree at Simpson. We spent the next two years traveling back and forth whenever one of us could make it. The distance was a challenge after spending so much time together, but even with the distance our relationship grew stronger. Then on the day of our third anniversary, Jake got down on one knee. He surprised me that day at my parents house (where I was working and waiting for my rental house to be ready) with flowers and the promise of going out to my Aunts house to take pictures. We had recently got our second dog, Athena, and he wanted a picture of the four of us for my new rental house. Seeing as I was up at 5 A.M. with the puppy that morning, and he has always been great at surprising me, I didn't think twice about it. After I finished work, we went out to my Aunts farm (one of my favorite places to be) and took tons of photos! He then convinced me to walk down the dirt road I have spent hours riding mules on and walking dogs down when he dropped to one knee. I was SHOCKED! I quickly said yes! Since that day, I have moved to Des Moines, where we are grateful to live in the same city again! We spend lots of time hiking with our two dogs, having dinner with friends, and sitting by the fire reading. We can't wait to get married and start this next chapter of our life.

Emily met Mackenzie when Mackenzie was just 3 years old. Mackenzie's family had just moved into a new home and Emily was eager for a new friend. Mackenzie however had other opinions and hid behind her mother for many minutes. Thankfully Mackenzie got over her fear of new friends and they have been besties ever since and often would live at each others homes when given the chance. Here you can see one of the many Halloweens they spent trick or treating together.

Meredith and Mackenzie met when they were in third and fourth grade. They were introduced at a school party, where Meredith quickly asked Mackenzie if she wanted to go get a soda with her. Mackenzie told her that she would go get a water or lemonade since she doesn't like soda, to which Meredith replied she also hated soda! They quickly bonded over their hatred of soda and have been besties ever since! In the picture here you can see them both in their wetsuits getting ready to go white water rafting!

Andrea and Mackenzie met their freshman year at Simpson College. They shared their love of math and hatred of math homework that they spent hours working on together over the years. They ended up becoming roommates and even went to grad school together! They have gone on many adventures together over the years and are excited for many more! In the photo above you can see Andrea and Mackenzie at a lake in Rotorua, New Zealand on a study abroad trip they took together.

Josh is Mackenzie's cousin. They grew up visiting each other with their families. As Mackenzie got older, she enjoyed visiting Iowa more and more and would fly out to spend her summers in Iowa with Josh and his family. When  Mackenzie's family moved to Iowa, she and Josh were in the same class and got to hang out even more her last three years of high school. In this photo, you can see Josh and Mackenzie in the first of many photos taken together.

Leslie and Mackenzie met their freshman year of college, they shared a calculus class. They even liked math so much they competed in a math modeling competition together all four years of college. They were also roommates for a couple of those years and even started a club that only they were a part of. The photo is of them hanging out in their senior year apartment!

Kelly and Mackenzie didn't meet until their senior year of college, but they were fast friends! Andrea introduced them right before they ended up rooming together! They had a great time senior year and have had many memorable moments since! At Simpson you could find them most Monday's at La Casa having a good time with friends. In the photo you see them right after graduating from Simpson.

Austin and Jake met when Austin was born. Austin is Jake's little brother and as the years have gone on the two have become inseparable. While, this photo may not show it, the two love hanging out together, playing with their dog Lucci, and much more.

Jared and Jake met a long time ago at church. They bonded over many church camps, fun filled weekends together and more. Another interesting fact is Jake was recently honored by being Jared's best man in his wedding, exactly 6 months before Jakes. In this photo the two were hanging out at church camp one summer.

Jon and Jake met at football when they were young. They bother grew close hanging out at football and then hanging out at each others houses. They live in the same neighborhood, so they got to spend lots of summers together at Jon's pool. In this photo you can see them both supporting their favorite team, the Chiefs. 

Jon Redmond

Joey and Jake met their freshman year of college. They shared a dorm room and went on to live with each other a couple more years. While they shared a dorm, they also shared a passion for football and played together for Simpson all four years they were there. This is one of the thousands of photos they have post games, this particular one was taken after they played Buena Vista.

Jacob met Jake their freshman year of college. Apart from sharing a name, these two also shared a room all four years of college, a passion for football and played on the same team all four years of college too. This photo was taken the day they moved into Buxton, their freshman dorm.

Jack and Jake met their junior year of college. The two of them were introduced by Joe McNally and lived together the last two years of college. While they may have played different sports, the two loved hanging out every weekend together! In this photo they had just graduated from Simpson together!

Here you can see Mackenzie with her three younger brothers Trent, Trevor and Reed. They have always been a tight knit family and gone on many adventures together. Mackenzie couldn't ask for better brothers and can't wait for them to be their ushers.

Nala (left) and Athena (right) are excited to celebrate Jake and Mackenzie's wedding! Nala was got from a farmer about two years ago and Athena was from Texas. Jake and Kenzie traveled all the way there a year ago just to pick her up and bring her home. They will be at the ceremony celebrating with everyone so make sure you stop and say hi!

Chandler (left) and Joey (right) were rescued by Mackenzie's family and adopted by Jake and Mackenzie. they will not be at the wedding, but Mackenzie felt bad leaving them out, so enjoy their cute faces from the computer.
