Which airport should I fly into?

Geneva Airport will be the closet international airport to Leysin. We suggest flying into Geneva and taking the train to Leysin directly from the airport, however Zurich Airport is certainly an alternative.

How should we plan to get around?

Switzerland is famous for the trains running on time! Nearly everything in Switzerland is accessible by train from the Geneva Airport. However, if you wish to rent a car you may find it easier to get around. For rental cars, Sixt has always been our go to, however there are lots of other options. Leysin streets can be narrow, and it will be snowy! We would advise renting a heavier car for safety.

What will the weather be like?

Leysin, Switzerland usually averages lows of 20F and highs of 45F. The days are usually sunny and the cooler weather comes around in the evening. We suggest you bring a heavy jacket, but note that the days can be warmer with the sun!

What is the plan for the weekend?

Please refer to the home page on this website for a complete schedule. Note: we obviously want everyone at the Rehearsal Dinner, Ceremony, and Reception but the other events listed are completely optional and should you want to explore other options please refer to our Activities and Dining section of the website.

What is the expected attire for the weekend?

Thursdays welcome drink and dinner at our home will be causal. Come as you are after a long travel day! On Friday, we have skiing and lunch planned for those who wish to join and the attire for lunch is casual but dress warm as it will be at a restaurant at the top of the mountain! In the evening we will have our Rehearsal Dinner at an Italian restaurant in Leysin and the dress will be cocktail attire. On Saturday, you are welcome to create your own agenda for the day, however if you wish to join us for lunch in Vevey the attire is business casual. The wedding ceremony and reception is Black Tie! So please dress to impress. Keep in mind you will want a coat for the chilly weather in the evening. The streets of Leysin can be steep. If ladies plan on wearing heels, we would advise bringing flats after surveying the scene... Just in case! On Sunday, our bon-voyage croissants and coffee reception at our home will be casual. Come as you are!

Where can I find your registry?

The greatest gift of all is having you at our special day! In addition, we have established a Honeymoon Fund on our registry page. Please refer to the registry page if you would like to contribute and read a bit more about it. We have also identified a good number of items for our registry should you want to purchase one of them. Again, thank YOU!

Dietary restrictions

We will be working with our venues to accommodate all restrictions. However, if you do have any needs or requests please reach out to us.

We highly recommend you download the SBB Train App. If you decide to rent a car for convenience, please note that the roads to and from Leysin are very narrow and there is certainly a possibility of snow. Drive carefully! While in Leysin, it is difficult to call an Uber. In fact, Uber does not really exist in this small alpine village. However, the train does go up and down the mountain with stops in various parts of the village (see maps attached). Leysin has a free bus service that goes through the village and you can see the schedule here…just scroll down on this site to download the schedule. Leysin does have a taxi service which is reliable. We have informed them ahead of time about our wedding. We have arranged a large charter bus to take the entire wedding party from the church where the wedding ceremony will take place to the restaurant where the reception is (La Fromagerie). We are looking into more transportation possibilities and will report back! Leysin is a walking village with trails throughout. However, the village is on a mountain and the terrain can be steep. This map may help! Cash/Credit Cards: Note: Switzerland is a cash-friendly country and not everyone (taxi’s, small shops, etc.) accepts credit cards. You can get cash out at the local bank in Leysin or from the airport when you land. Remember, Switzerland is NOT a member of the European Union and therefore has its own currency: The Swiss Franc. You can check the conversation rates here. Clothing/Attire: What to wear in a mountain town in Switzerland in March? Well, the weather can be spring-like and it could also be very winter-like! Leysin gets an extraordinary amount of sunlight during the day and then really cools down in the evening. The ski lifts will be open and they will be making snow regardless. On our wedding website we have outlined the attire for each event. The wedding ceremony on Saturday, March 15 and the reception after are black tie. For ski information please see our Activities page on our wedding site and Hefti Sports Leysin is the place to rent prior to skiing at Leysin Ski Resort. Food/Shopping: Swiss cuisine is rich in cheese, meats, chocolate, and wine! Come prepared! 😀 However, there are a variety of restaurants in Leysin and a small number of cute shops all locally owned. The Swiss Leysin website can give you a full list of things to do and places to go. Please let us know ASAP if you have any dietary needs and we will work with our restaurants to best meet your needs. There will be vegetarian options at each of our events. Phone/Text/WhatsApp: We highly recommend you contact your cell phone provider and speak with them about your plan while abroad. WhatsApp is the very best FREE app to use when in Switzerland to make calls and send/receive messages. We will be creating a WhatsApp group for everyone attending the wedding festivities where we can send messages about various events. This will be set up soon. The Swiss country code is +41. When you arrive in Switzerland, please contact Jake and/or Ryan so we can help with anything you might need and so we are aware that you are officially in the country! Jake: (772) 233-7155 Ryan: (917) 509-8563 Gift Bags: We have gift bags for everyone! If you arrive in time to attend the Welcome to Switzerland party at Jake and Ryan’s Chalet on Thursday, March 13, we will have the bags for you there. If you are not in town by then, please swing over to our home when you arrive! Miscellaneous Notes: Switzerland is often seen as simply the most beautiful and peaceful country in the world! If this is your first visit - take it all in! If returning, welcome home! A few things to note: These two websites will give you a full overview of the country, history, laws, environment, weather, and so much more: About Switzerland Switzerland Travel and Vacation The Swiss are very rule-abiding citizens. Follow the laws of the land for sure. Things close early in Switzerland (grocery stores no later than 7:00 PM) and expect virtually nothing to be open on Sundays. The tap water is the ONLY way to go - it’s literally Evian water! And drink FAR more water than your body will indicate it needs - - The air is fresh and the elevation is high. Leysin Med is the local hospital, walk-in clinic, and doctors office. They are wonderful and are there should you need anything. We have guests attending from nearly 15 different countries - come ready to meet friends from around the globe. Thanks for making it to the end of this massive email! We hope this was helpful! Trust that we are so excited to see you! The greatest four day party in Switzerland starts soon! See you in the Alps! Love, Jake & Ryan
