There are no bad places, but it depends on what amenities and proximity to things you are looking for. We a myraid of wonderful hotels from budget to deluxe, near town and a short drive from there in all directions.

VRBO & Air BnB also have many options.

Bringing an RV and want a hook up? Elk Meadow RV Resort and Spruce Lake RV Park are both great options.

What do you want to do? Hiking and visiting the National Park are always top of the list, but be sure to check for reservations or other options for getting into the park.

Horseback riding, boat and bike rentals, plenty of places to visit. And of course shopping downtown.

Altitude sickness is no joke! Be sure to drink plenty of water, rest up for a day or two before tackling any big adventures so you have time to acclimate. Need an O2 boost? The local pharmacy and mountain shops sell it in a can!

The weather is always changing. Layers are recommended. Long pants, sweats and sweaters are needed usually after dark, while August days can get quite warm.

Sunscreen daily and often. Bug spray is wise for evenings.
