James and Anton met at the University of Maryland, College Park, where James studied Environmental Science & Policy and Anton studied Vocal Music Performance and Journalism. They crossed paths while performing for the Gamer Symphony Orchestra.

A featured vocal duet and an end-of-year GSO party sparked interest and the two began to spend more time together. They had their first date at Ten Ren's Tea during finals week of Spring 2019.

The first few months of their relationship were long distance while Anton studied abroad in Galway, Ireland. Despite the distance, they grew close through humor and shared interests of music and nerd culture.

When Anton returned to Maryland, James helped him move into a new apartment, then drove him to and from a surgery scheduled for the next day. James was by Anton's side when he woke up and cared for him during recovery. On the trip home, they both knew the commitment would be lifelong.

Music continued to play a central part in their relationship when Anton suggested James join Ethnobeat, UMD's world music a cappella group. Anton was music director of the group, and James used his music arranging talents to provide EB with songs that are still performed today.

The two moved in together in 2020 and adopted their cat, Chai, on New Year’s Eve, 2021. James proposed on April 23, 2023.

James and Anton continue to enjoy music, board games, video games, and conventions together.

They both look forward to sharing their special day with friends and family!

James grew up in Highland, Maryland and now resides in Riverdale, Maryland. He is currently an administrative assistant. He enjoys video games and environmental justice. His favorite thing about Anton is his passion, devotion and creativity.

Anton grew up in Hudson, Ohio and now resides in Riverdale, Maryland. He is a voice teacher, elementary school music teacher, and occasional music director. He enjoys good food and good music. His favorite thing about James is his patience, support and dedication.
