1. We highly recommend brining non perishable food items in your suitcase. Food is very expensive on the island, so any food you can bring will help to save on cost. Think of items for breakfast, snacks, easy lunches, and some dinner meals for non wedding event night. Anything prepackaged is fine to bring (pasta, peanut butter, crackers, canned items, snacks etc.)
2. There are restaurants on the island however they can be expensive and close a little earlier. We do recommend trying to cook and eat at your home for majority of your meals if possible.
3. We also recommend bringing plenty of sunscreen; the sun is more intense in the Bahamas.
4. We will be having events outside so please bring bug spray! We should get a nice breeze off the beach and March is the best time of year for the Bahamas but there are still lots of bugs.
5. Basic amenities will be available at the homes such as filtered water, towels beach and bathroom, chairs, coolers, and dish soap etc.)
1. Try and a bring water bottle with you and drink water during the travel day. Once you land it may be a little while before you can get yourself a beverage so we recommend this to try and be a little more comfortable.
2. Once you land the Airport is very small. There is bathroom, though it is only a few stalls and there may be line. We recommend going on the plane if you feel you need, before landing, to make going through customs smoother.
3. They will provide a customs form on the flight. You will complete this for the customs office. On the form for type of accommodation you will select Rental Apt/Villa and you will put the name of your home as the Address (aka. The Exuma Outpost, The Salt House, or The Reef House). Bring a black or blue ink pen as well, if you can remember, they will have a few but probably not enough for the whole flight.
There are different rental car options. The island is easily explored by car. If you rent a car you can visit other beaches and notable places on the island.
They do drive on the left side of the road here so keep that in mind. Some cars, though not all, have the driver side on the right of the car as well. The homes are about a 45 minute ride from the airport. You can download google maps offline and find the home and get directions provided right to the house. The road does have a lot of potholes. Drive slow and take your time getting here there is no rush! Locals will pass you if they need. Even small cars can handle the pot holes as long as you take it slow and pay attention. We have rented a car various times and never had a problem, except one time with a Jeep in Eleuthera but that's a story for another day.
If you would rather not worry about driving we can coordinate travel from the airport, to boat excursion, and travel back to the airport.
Recommended car rental companies: Thompsons, or Exuma Car Rental.
There are Grocery and liquor stores on the island. There is also a Butcher shop that offers a wider variety of fresh meats as well as groceries.
Groceries come in on boats twice a week and there is no guarantee on what will be in stock.
Please be mindful the groceries are also very expensive as it is all imported. Again we recommend brining as much food as you can and only buying what you need or needs refrigeration.
We will have plenty of Liquor through the week for most, however if you feel you want to have anything specific you can always purchase more.
There will be a guest book at the homes with more information on restaurants, stores, etc.
Please feel free to reach out to Ben or Jamie with any addtional questions, however the week of the wedding please reach out to TBD.
