Love Amongst The Heat

Janice and D both met at Roy's Restaurant in Waikiki. They were both cooks; Janice had been primarily working the bakeshop for 2 years, and D had just started at the Waikiki location, having worked the company's burger house previously. Both were not single at the time they met; however, it didn't stop them from being attracted to each other. After 3 years, both became single, and D saw his chance to ask Janice out. D and Janice's at-the-time co-worker, Romel, and now good friend, told D that Janice just became single and that she's feeling down. D said some explicits, ran to the walk-in refrigerator, caught Janice off guard while she was scooping ice cream, and announced, with all confidence, "I'm taking you out to dinner!" and left Janice flabbergasted for a few moments. The next Thursday, D takes Janice out for some pizza. On March 2, 2019, Janice tells D that she's all his. Two weeks later D and Janice finally say, "I love you!" to each other, and the rest is history! D proposed to Janice on June 12, 2023, Janice's birthday. D waited til Janice fell asleep on the couch on June 11th, woke her up to go "make sure he put the bed sheets on straight", and when she came out of the bedroom, still with bedhead, D was on his knees, topless, with his mother's ring in a little box held out to her. D popped the question at midnight, and Janice was more than happy to squeal out a big, "YES!!!" Since then, the two are happily engaged, eagerly awaiting their happy day to come.

Janice's beloved and very artistic brother. He introduced Janice to her now favorite animes, mangas, and all things fantasy/SciFi. A constant artistic inspiration, Jensen impresses Janice everyday with his entrepreneurial life style and effortless mindset towards a successful life.

Janice's best friend since 2005!! He is considered Janice's hanai brother, and true astrological twin. The two 1990 Geminis are inseparable. Elliot however, is always involved in human connection and extra-curricular groups, making him the extroverted one of the pair, compared to Janice's hermit tendencies.

Janice's life long friend since 2004!! Raylita is always the bubbles to the soda, and the spark to any crowd. Raylita's fun and loving personality kept Janice sane through her temporary KCC days and was one of the first girls to befriend Janice before high school even started. She and her friends made the summer of 2004 one of Janice's favorite friend-related memories.

Janice's life long friend since 2004!! Like Raylita, Kristina was one of the girls that first befriended Janice in the first year she experienced public school. Kristina's eye for beauty and honesty always inspired Janice to strive for the beautiful and true things in life.

Janice's and D's  long time friend and former co-worker from the restaurant they both met and worked at, Roy's Waikiki. Kiera proves to be a true friend, and has always supported all that D and Janice does in life. Kiera is always a welcome companion in all things recreational, and always surprises you with their wit and ability to keep the ball rolling.

Janice's cousin/ hanai sister from her dad's side. Minette practically helped raise Janice , and taught her everything she loves about food and art culture. She is one of Janice's leading inspirations for how she enjoys and prepare food. Many of Janice's recipes root from this beloved cousin.

Minette Ferrer

Rosalyn is one of Janice's closest cousins on her mom's side. Though she is soft-spoken, she is very creative, artistic, fun loving, and cares about family very much.

Agnes is a very hard working and loving mother, who inspires anyone to continuously pursue their happiness and to not stop until you have it. She is the image of perseverance and honest work. Janice hopes to follow the same path as her mother by making a business and a name for herself in the pastry world, from the ground up.

Adolf is the loving father of Janice. He constantly inspires Janice in all things creative through is own vast artistry. He spoiled Janice through love and food, and always indulged her childish beliefs in Santa Claus. Adolf is the reason Janice loves the food she likes, and how she ended up following her culinary dreams.

Margarite is D's mom, and mother to two boys of her own and hanai to quite a few others. She worked in the medical field for many years with multiple jobs to give the best life to her boys. Margarite has also taught me (D) how to climb mountains and struggles by taking one piece at a time, one step at a time, and through perseverance, to overcome with resilience. Get your cameras ready because she's always photo ready, haha.

Danny is D's father, and the best dad in the world. Mechanic, handyman, and owner of multiple businesses, Danny has proved time after time that there is no quit in his heart. I (D) have learned, and crafted my own way in this world from his education in hard work and solving problems by adapting to any situation, and using familiar tools to achieve success. The roots of an engineer came from Danny's background and beginning from tool and dye training in a technical school long ago. Ask his sister, Pam, about his nickname, or converse about Clint Eastwood, and you will be best of friends.

Danny "Pistol" Hilliard Jr.

Older brother, and best man of the groom, Mac is 13 years older, and practically helped raise D into who he is today. This started from teaching general hygiene to D's style of wearing khaki shorts. D always strived to be like his big brother, and Mac did his best to keep his cool, and be a patient teacher along the way. Mac is now a successful businessman, husband (to Anna), and father to two boys (Mason and Charlie). Make sure to ask about, "the wooden spoon in the sunvisor,"  if your interested in a fun short story.

Mac Crollman

Joe is a childhood friend of Mac, and Brad. He met Mac in little league baseball, and they've stayed in contact ever sense. Joe is one of my (D) hanai brothers, and was always around when I was growing up. From shooting free throws behind the trampoline, to playing a full game of whiffle ball in the backyard with four people, he's always able to make a friendly competition out of a simple childhood game.

Joe "Sneaky" Snyder

Brad is one of the other childhood friends of Mac. They met as young kids riding bikes, and getting into shananagins with Joe. Full of random facts, and limitless laughs, Brad is a riot. Brad even gave me some of the first advise I ever had about talking to girls. Simple, "go talk to them about something you both know." As a small child that was like trying to fly to the next planet. Always been a part of my family, so be prepared to learn a few new "fun facts."

Brad "B-Rad" Greenwell

Tyler and D met in kindergarten many years ago. They bonded over Tyler's fascination with science, and tools (or toys) to examine multiple phenomenon. Kid genious, and having a friend like D caused many trips to the principals office. Ask Tyler one of the many stories of D getting Tyler's tools (toys) taken away in gradeschool and how we got them back. The two together thought they were Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible.

Tyler "Big T" Hobson

J Byrd and D met at UNC-Charlotte as sophomores. The two bonded of parquor, and love of video games. He put extensive time into the game Street Fighter, and even competed in a few local tournaments. He taught me (D) how to really play another game called Mortal Kombat. Originally from South Carolina, and currently resides in Washington. He now teaches children basic game design (STEAM), finishing school for computer science and RTIS (real time interactive simulation), and even worked for Nintendo. J is another person in D's life that has been from the bottom, and now he's here. Another cool fact about J Byrd is that he lived in Hawai'i for three years as a small child. Does this make him Hawaiian?? Below is a small bit that I'd like to include that he has written about our friendship.
"D and I are family. We have seen the best of times and the worst of times together at a very critical time of development in our lives that has shown us both who we truly are to one another, and have formed an unbreakable bond that will live on for generations. Love you bro."

Janice works at 'Alohilani Resort Hotel on Oahu in Waikiki. She can get you discounts on rooms at this hotel, or at one of its Sister hotels. Let Janice and D know if you need to book, how many rooms, and for how many people to book for in the RSVP page. They will contact you to help book and to go over payment details. Below is a list of the price breakdowns. Keep in mind that Janice's discounts can only go so far and may not be available if all the discounts are maxed out; first come first served. However, Janice can apply her discounts at multiple hotels simultaneously.
