Getting Around

DC is a very walkable city with an easy to navigate Metro train and bus system that connects to the major airports and Union Station. Maps and fare info at - https://www.wmata.com/

Ubers, Lyfts, and taxis are also usually readily available.

NoMa

The Hilton Garden Inn is in the NoMa neighborhood, which is between the Union Station and NoMa stops on the Red Line. NoMa, like most of DC, is very walkable. Wundergarten and Red Bear Brewing are great local and casual spots for a drink or snack. Indigo has some of the best Indian food in DC. There is a Trader Joe's a short walk from the hotel on Florida Ave NE. Union Market and the H Street Corridor are also short walks away (more below!).

Union Market

Union Market is a short walk from the Hilton Garden Inn and is a great place to walk around, window shop, or grab a bite. Be sure to check out some of our favorite spots: Byrdland Records, Last Call bar, and Cotton & Reed Rum Distillery. Pro tip - you can grab food inside the main market building and then head up to the roof (the HiLawn) to enjoy it with your bev of choice and a great view of Capitol Hill.

La Cosecha, right around the corner, is a contemporary Latin American marketplace with delicious food and drinks.

H Street Corridor

A short walk from the NoMa neighborhood is the H Street Corridor, where Janie and Roger live! Check out our favorite spots - Sidamo Coffee & Tea, The Queen Vic pub, The Big Board, and Taqueria Al Lado II.

The U.S. Capitol, National Mall, and Museums

The Red Line, which you can catch from the NoMA stop near the Hilton Garden Inn, provides access to the Capitol (Union Station), the National Mall and many of the free Smithsonian museums (Metro Center). Our favorite spots include the National Gallery of Art, the Air & Space Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian, and the Botanical Gardens. On your way back to NoMa, be sure to swing by the Dubliner, a traditional Irish pub with live music every day!

Eastern Market

Roger's former neighborhood, Eastern Market, is a beautiful part of Capitol Hill. The market itself is bustling on Saturdays and Sundays with outdoor vendors. Spots to check out include Capitol Hill Books, the Eastern Wine Bar, Barrel, and Wine & Butter Cafe right off Lincoln Park.

Smithsonian National Zoo/Cleveland Park

Nestled in Janie's longtime former neighborhood of Cleveland Park, the National Zoo is a fun and free outdoor outing, easily accessible via the Red Line. Be sure to stop into Nanny O'Brien's, one of the best Irish pubs on the East Coast, for a Guinness and buffalo chicken wrap or some wings.

U Street/14th Street

U Street and 14th Street NW are home to many bars and restaurants for anyone seeking a little night life. 14th is also home to Cafe St. Ex, which is where Janie and Roger had their first date!

Brookland and Fort Totten

The Brookland neighborhood, on the Red Line, is where you'll find the wedding venue, St. Francis Hall, which sits on the property of the Franciscan Monastery. The grounds themselves are beautiful with public gardens to walk through. Brookland Pint and Brookland's Finest are good spots for lunch or dinner. And a little further south is the Dew Drop Inn, a fantastic dive on the train tracks. If you venture a stop further north on the Red Line, you'll hit Fort Totten, which is a short walk to Hellbender Brewing, a Sheehan and Poulin family favorite neighborhood hang.

The Wharf

The Wharf is an upscale neighborhood on the water that is fun for strolling or grabbing a bite. Some waterfront spots we recommend are Hank's Oyster Bar, Rappahannock Oyster Bar, Tiki TNT, and Kirwan's Pub. While you might not have time to go to a concert, the Anthem is also on the Wharf and one of our favorite music venues.

Navy Yard

Off the Green Line, Navy Yard is home to the Nationals baseball stadium as well as Audi Field where the DC soccer team plays. There are many great bars and restaurants to choose from and there is a beautiful river side boardwalk. Some of our favorite spots include the Salt Line, Bluejacket Brewery, Dacha Beer Garden, and Solace Outpost.
