Haldi (turmeric) is at the core of almost every Indian meal and the primary ingredient for this special ceremony. Haldi paste will be applied to the bride and groom during the ceremony, representing a life of prosperity free from "Buri Nazaar", the Sanskrit term for evil spirits.
