Their story began on July 20th, 2023, when Brian made a playful joke in response to Jaque’s Hinge profile prompt. Their first conversation lasted for hours, and after 20 days of getting to know each other, they finally went on their first date—a full day spent together.

Brian took Jaque to a Latin restaurant to give her a taste of home. They both had yucca fries (definitely recommended!), and then he took her to the Botanical Garden, recalling that she had recently mentioned visiting a sunflower field with friends.

Jaque had a flight later that day, which was supposed to be delayed, so they used the extra time to catch a movie and grab dinner. After an amazing 8-hour date, Brian dropped her off at the airport—only for Jaque to realize the flight wasn’t delayed after all, and she almost missed it!

A week later, after returning from her trip, Jaque invited him to dinner (with a little help from a friend, as she was too shy to ask on her own). Brian picked her up from the airport, and they spent a wonderful weekend together.

The following weekend, Jaque cooked her first Brazilian meal for Brian—and that’s when she truly won him over with her cooking skills. From then on, they spent every weekend together while Jaque was finishing her au pair program in Chapel Hill.

After about 3.5 months of dating, Jaque moved back to New Jersey for work in November. But the long-distance relationship didn’t last long. In January, Brian visited her in New York City for her birthday, and just a few days later, Jaque drove back to North Carolina and moved in with him.

Her move went smoothly, and within a few weeks, they were updating things in their room and even buying furniture together!

It had been months filled with adventures and challenges, but they faced them all together and handled everything pretty well.

After months of planning, they finally turned their dream into reality and went to Puerto Rico. Jaque, Brian, Meghan, and Will had been talking about the trip for months, and it was finally happening. They set off to celebrate Meg and Will's 10th anniversary and Brian's birthday. But there was a surprise twist: the trip also included an engagement!

Now, they’re preparing to tie the knot and can’t wait to spend the rest of their lives together!
