Updated Oct 4th: We have decided to postpone our wedding until next Fall to give the city the time it needs to recover.
The situation in Asheville and the surrounding area is still dire with over 100 confirmed fatalities and hundreds still missing in North Carolina alone (with Buncombe County making up the majority of those dead and/or missing). Combined with fatalities from the rest of the Southeast, this already makes Helene the deadliest hurricane to hit the U.S. since Katrina. Water service and other infrastructure will take weeks to months to fully recover. A major highway into the city, I-40 W towards Tennessee, will likely be closed until next September.
We have contacted all of our wonderful vendors and they have assured us they are safe. Our wedding venue, The Farm, scraped by with very minimal damage and is well on its way to recovering fully once municipal water is restored. The devastation to the surrounding area, however, is simply too much for us to practically (or morally) have our wedding there this year. The Farm has agreed to reschedule our event to the following year (tentatively on Sunday October 5th, 2025). We feel this is the best way forward for us to have something like the wedding we wanted.
We hope that our guests understand the severity of these events and cancel their travel arrangements to Asheville promptly. It is still ill advised to travel to Western North Carolina, except to provide much needed aid.
We hope you all can join us this time next year. We will send out another round of invites closer to the date.
Most importantly, however, our thoughts are with the people of Asheville.
Asheville is one of our favorite places and is home to some of the kindest people you'd ever meet. We are deeply saddened to see this level of destruction happen to a place we care about so deeply.
