We had initially been pointed toward the direction of each other through mutual friends. After a few months of hanging out, Jared came with me to pick rock in my dad's field one day (romantic, right?!). He ended up asking me out by handing me two bottles of Propel, one berry flavored and one kiwi flavored when I told him "I was thirsty and needed a break". On the bottles of Propels, he had a note with a cheesy saying "I think "kiwi" (we would) be a "berry" (very) cute couple. Will you be my girlfriend?". After pondering the question (and taking a few drinks of water) I responded with, "sure" and maybe not the anticipated level of excitement.

Our 1st Spring Break Trip in Big Bend National Park
March 14, 2023
This was our last day in Big Bend National Park. Jared decided we should save the last day for the hardest hike. It was a 12 mile round trip hike with 2,000 ft. elevation gain. The hike was very hard and Kate complained a majority of the way up (imagine that!). Jared kept saying, "I promise it will be worth it". Now, I (Kate) understand why he kept saying that! Once at the top, I sat down to catch my breath and as soon as I looked back at Jared he was already down on one knee! ๐

In June, we moved back to Iowa from Dallas to be closer to family. We are so happy to call Grimes our home! Jared currently works as an analyst for Midwest Growth Partners in West Des Moines. Kate is a Kindergarten teacher at ADM (Adel-De Soto-Minburn) Schools. We are both loving our current roles and are very thankful to be closer to family!
