On April 22nd, 2016, both of their lives changed forever. Right before Jesuit Junior Prom, Jared’s date fell through. So, through a mutual friend, they were set up on a blind date to go to prom. On the day of the prom, they met for the first time at Emily’s house. They took the most awkward pictures of their lives and headed out for dinner. They went to Byblos on Metairie Road with a group of friends, and then headed out to the dance.
At the dance, people were dancing, and having fun, and then the slow dance came on. He asked her to dance, but it was cut short when she felt like she was going to pass out. He got her some water, and the night continued. After the dance, they went to the old Morning Call on Severn, a tradition after Jesuit dances for Jared, to eat beignets. The night ended, but that wasn’t the end of their story. They continued to talk, and both are so glad they did.
Senior year of high school started, and they stayed in touch. Jared asked Emily to his Senior Ring Dance, and they had another night of dancing and fun. A couple months later, he asked her to the Jesuit Homecoming, and that’s where things started picking up. He clearly had feelings for her.
Fast forward a couple more months, after being unable to attend her Winter Formal due to a competition, he asked her to his MCJROTC Ball and that’s when she started having feelings for him. Then on December 19, 2016 they officially started dating.
At the end of Senior they went to each other’s proms, graduated high school and then at the end of that summer he left for college at the University of Louisiana, while she stayed back and went to Delgado Community College. It was challenging, but the next year she transferred to UL and their relationship grew from there. It could be challenging at times, being in different majors with different work loads, juggling extracurriculars, and eventually a lockdown in the pandemic, but they got through it all.
They graduated college, got jobs, and on August 10th, 2024, Jared proposed, and Emily said yes, and now, the rest is history as they prepare for the rest of their lives together.
