Just a 15 min drive from Ålesund Airport (AES) is the town of Ålesund, known as the gateway to Geirangerfjord and Hjørundfjord, two of Norway's most scenic fjords. Jasmine recommends Hotel Brosundet. They have a great breakfast and its' location allows you to jump directly into the sea. Take a walk, bike or hike in nearby area (Bike & Hike tour the bride personally did during her solo stay) and grab a coffee/donut at Devie's.
Just a 90 min. drive from Ålesund, Bryan recommends unwinding at Juvet Landscape Hotel, a minimal modernist wellness retreat surrounded by nature that compels you to feel time and space on your terms. The stay at Juvet includes an extremely yummy three course communal dining experience each evening and breakfast. For Succession fans, this is the filming location for the retreat where The Roy's meet Lukas Matsson (played by Alexander Skarsgård) in Season 4. To add to this hotel's claim to fame, it was also the primary filming location for Ex Machina. Worth seeing nearby: Trollstigen (scenic route), and Åndalsnes. Take the Romsdalsgondolen - up to hike around Rampestreken to see beautiful views of the Romsdalen Valley, Troll Wall and surrounding fjord.
The couple personally prefers the Frogner neighborhood, due to proximity to Frogner Park which contains the famous sculpture park by Gustav Vigeland and Grains a spot for coffee, crepes and people watching. Check out the Munch Museum (next to the lovely Oslo Opera House), dedicated to the life and works of the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. Grab a drink at the rooftop bar & terrace for a view of Bjørvika and surrounding fjord town. If you're feeling hungry & equally thirsty for some wine / cocktails, head to Røeds gate (located in Grünerløkkaand) and check out Happy Ending a food bar (with a speakeasy downstairs) in an old Massage Studio (appropriately named 🤭). Also worth visiting is Nektar - their cozy sister restaurant up the hill (in a cute wooden house). For more cocktails, head over to Himkok (prononuced Him.Kook, translation Moonshine), and if you're feeling like some darts, swing by Oche.
Below is a peek into the couple's hit list beyond the Ålesund and Oslo areas.
Bergen used to serve as capital of Norway (prior to Oslo). Bryggen and it's unique architeture is listed on UNESCOs world heritage list.
Drive The Atlantic Road, connecting Averøy with the mainland via a series of small islands and islets spanned by a total of eight bridges over 8274 meters. It also serves as a filming location in one of Jasmine's fav Bond Movies No Time to Die (clip).
Under is a 1 Michelin Star restaurant offering a submerged dining experience five meters below the icy waters of Lindesnes.
Another aquatic Norwegian fine dining restaurant in Bergen, of which the movie The Menu is based off of.
