Maid and Matron of Honor

Rikki Lee Gray and Angela McDaniel

To my sisters, my maid and matron of honor:

Thank you! As the baby of the trifecta, I can’t thank you enough for being my best friends, my rocks, my escape and my confidants through it all. Angie, thank you for being a passionate advocate through my roaring teenage years and showing what resilience and true beauty look like. Rikki, thank you for being a fierce protector, loyal and always true to yourself, your family and your friends. From you both, I’ve been raised, supported, comforted and loved through the years and I say thank you for loving me for who I am, where I am and how I am. What a wonderful world I’ve been blesssd with, what beautiful sisters I have to ride with. Through thick and through thin, I’ve got your back and you’ve got mine. So thank you for loving me and accepting my love, my future husband, Hernz, with open and receiving arms as your own.

I met Auntie Jas while she was in medical school. She was always so busy but I loved when she visited Alabama or when we went to Kentucky for the holidays. She’s always so much fun to play with and I’m excited to have fun and celebrate with her and Hernz. I can't wait to have fun at the reception, I hope there are games and pizza. I promise to uphold my duties in being a ring bearer and bring you the rings safely, before you say I do.

I met Uncle Junior 4 days after I was born. I will never forgot how happy he was to hold me for the very first time. I look forward to making silly faces and sounds with Uncle on FaceTime everyday. I am looking forward to being the ring bearer and officially being Tatie Jasmine’s nephew. I’m also looking forward to challenging my uncle to a dance battle at the reception. I’m just a baby but my advice is to love each other with the same love I have for cookies and ice cream.
Kasi McDaniel
Kasi McDaniel - Flower Girl
I met Auntie Jasmine while she was in residency to become a Pediatrician. I made sure to send her lots of pictures of my beautiful smile to cheer her up while she was at work helping other kids stay healthy. I am looking forward to being a flower girl. I’m also looking forward to wearing a pretty dress. I hope it’s the color rainbow.

I met my godfather back in June of 2021. My parents asked him to be my godfather and he was sooooo happy. I’m his first goddaughter. I’m so excited for my parenn and for his future wife. I can’t wait to hang out with them both and have fun during the wedding. I look forward to being the flower girl with Ms. Jasmine’s niece. It’s going to be so much fun! I love you parenn and I love you Ms. Jasmine.

Korea Blackburn - Junior Bridesmaid
I met Auntie Jas soon after she had gone to the prom, and ever since I’ve been known as princess #1. Through high school, to college, medical school, residency and beyond, I’ve had the privilege of growing up next to her. I’m excited to see her love story, from prom until now, come to fruition and be blessed with the union she has forged with Hernz.
Jermany Grayson Cox

Auntie Jas met me at hour zero while she helped her sister through labor. Rumor has it, I might have made a cameo in my mom’s belly at Hampton University during her graduation. From then, I’ve had the opportunity to see and travel to see her, city to city, state to state, but some of my favorite moments were visiting her in Pikeville, KY during medical school. She didn’t have a TV, But she always had my favorite snacks waiting for me. I’m thankful that through it all, she’s was able to love me and finally find love with Hernz. I look forward to challenging you in many races with my future uncle Hernz to challenge my track skills.

From our childhood roots in church to our shared journey at Hampton University, our friendship has been woven with threads of love and support. As we ventured into the realm of healthcare, our paths remained intertwined. While I pursued my passion for pharmacy, Jasmine embarked on a noble calling as a pediatrician, touching countless lives with her compassion and expertise. Her dedication to her profession is matched only by her warmth and kindness, qualities that have endeared her not only to me but to my own children, who adore her as much as I do. Looking back at our history, hearing stories of not only our mothers in college together but also sharing the role as bridesmaid for one another, one could say that our friendship was destiny, and I’m so happy God ordained our friendship to be so. I’ve cherished every moment of our bond. We forged a bond that transcended mere friendship, becoming line sisters and sorors in the illustrious Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Now, as you prepare to embark on this beautiful journey of marriage, I couldn't be more thrilled to stand by your side as a bridesmaid, as you did for me as I entered marriage. I eagerly anticipate witnessing the culmination of your love story and celebrating the joyous union of two incredible souls. Here's to a lifetime of happiness ahead!

As we stand on the brink of your wedding day, I am honored beyond measure to stand beside you as a bridesmaid, ready to witness the culmination of your love story. Together forever, never apart, maybe in distance but always in heart – these words hold a special place in our shared memories and epitomize the enduring strength of our friendship. From the moment our paths crossed in Detroit during our medical residency, it was clear destiny had a grand plan in store for us. You, my dear friend, swiftly transformed from a mere co-resident to my cherished "big, little sister."

Through the tumultuous journey of residency, we found solace in each other's presence, weathering the storms and celebrating the victories together. Oh, the memories we've crafted, from the nights on call, the tears we’ve cried, to the joyous moments of triumph! Our laughter often echoed any place we would go, a testament to the camaraderie we forged.

And as life led us down separate paths as pediatricians in different cities, our bond only grew stronger. Despite the miles between us, our shared love for Queen Bey and spirited debates over “what should I eat” kept us connected. Your unwavering support and infectious laughter have been my guiding light, dear sister.

As you embark on this new chapter alongside Hernz, my heart swells with joy and pride. Together, you radiate a love so pure, so genuine, that it fills the room with warmth and hope.

To my beloved “big little sister” and her charming counterpart, may your journey be adorned with countless blessings and everlasting happiness. Cheers to love, laughter, and a lifetime of cherished memories!

As we reminisce on our journey from the bustling halls of Children’s hospital of Michigan in Detroit during our medical residency, to this momentous occasion, I can't help but feel gratitude for the friendship we've cultivated. From our shared moments of solace by the pool to our cozy nights in watching timeless films and Disney classics, with a side of wine and cheese, we’ve found strength and joy in each other's company. As you prepare to walk down the aisle to your beloved groom, I am honored to stand by your side as you did for me, not only as a bridesmaid but as a friend to you both, ready to cheer you on as you embark on this new chapter of your life. Here's to love, laughter, and a lifetime of cherished memories ahead!

I wish I could hit rewind on my wedding day, and not so much change it, but to reexperience it like I do with Gilmore Girls pretty much annually. Every time I think back I appreciate a new moment, pick up another detail. My wedding advice is to try and soak it all in.

From the moment we were paired as freshman roommates, our bond was sealed with many naps and late nights at Moton Hall during our time at Hampton University. So grateful that our unspoken sisterhood that has flourished over the past 17 years, through countless cities, degrees earned, and adventures embarked upon, we've evolved from mere friends to chosen family. From our days at Hampton University to our travels around the globe, we've shared laughter, tears, and unforgettable memories. As I stand by your side on your wedding day, I am filled with excitement for the journey ahead, knowing that we will continue to grow, explore, and create lifelong memories together with you and Hernz. Here's to a future filled with love, laughter, and countless more adventures.

As freshmen at Hampton University, our friendship blossomed into a sisterhood that transcends time and distance. Our infectious laughter, identical smiles and countless similarities earned us our endearing nickname "twins," which is a testament to the inseparable bond we've forged and fostered over the years.

As I prepare to stand by your side in celebration of your marriage, it fills my heart with gratitude for the privilege of witnessing your love story unfold while honoring the light that shines within you. Here’s to your happily ever after with prayers for the beautiful journey ahead.

My brotherhood with Hernz is one of the most consistent and rewarding relationships in my life, which keeps me grounded, makes me better, and helps me grow. Every area of life—from the creativity we nurture to the laughs we share—is made more rich because of the friendship we share. I’ve never met anyone who commits themselves to their principles, who makes everyone feel at home, who can build community by instinct alone like you. It is a privilege to call you my brother—and I take our friendship as one of the most constant signs that I am on the right path in life. I’m looking forward to seeing you taking steps towards your forever. I know how much this means to you, and I know how happy Jas makes you.

To be part of this beautiful celebration and to joint a community gathered to honor your love, your commitment, your decency and goodness and happiness fills me with joy. In all things you do, you walk with confidence and grace. You are the best of our impulses, the kindest of our spirits, the most welcoming person of anyone I know. And now you and Jas get to welcome each other into your lives, it fills me with joy to watch you build your home and family. I couldn’t feel more certain that you will be a strong, loving, devoted husband, and that the family you build will be grounded in the light and joy you share with the world.

Hernz was my first friend in high school through cross country practice. Even back then, you could sense his commitment to being a genuine, kind, and positive presence wherever he went. Hernz continues to be one of the most admirable people in my life and his friendship doesn’t stagnate over time – even during years when we are in less contact, catching up with Hernz always feels like we were just hanging out the other day. I look forward to celebrating the couple! Wishing you peace and abundance as you begin a shared lifetime together. Remember that, moment to moment, we choose what matters.

My friendship with the groom started with pre verification through mutual best friend. Ever since we met, we’ve been locked in. Hernz is my music partna, Smash bros rival, and a very dear friend to me. We’re brothers.

On the day of the wedding I’m looking forward to meeting everyone who cares about him because I haven’t yet. I’m excited to see all the people he loves and pours into, pour back into him. And then drink while we all celebrate him.

I wish yall happiness and a bright future. I think the world should be full of more people and couples like yall.

MAN!!! Hernz and I are both so so so similar. Kind hearts, love meeting and hearing people’s stories, are completely and ridiculously silly, and will talk with any and everyone. And so our friendship has been one of constant fun and laughter. We always push each other to be our best selves and we can go from straight jokes to deep philosophical conversations. Quite literally two peas in a pod when we are together and it’s a friendship that lights up the room when we enter! Some people might say “don’t walk across Syracuse’s campus with us,” but I would argue and say it will be a fun adventure… just make sure you budgeted an extra hour to get to your destination (LOL!)

Seeing Hernz get to live out one of the many, happiest days of his life in becoming one with his person. I cannot think of a more deserving man to be joined with a life partner and I am so excited for the love, joy, and growth that this union will have on the world. You don’t meet too many Hernz’s in a lifetime and it will be amazing to see my dawg so happy! I am hoping to see some tears out of him! (I don’t ever think I have seen Hernz cry come to think of it!)

You know better than I do because you are so patient and loving, but remember to be patient with one another. Unity with your partner is not about how many days are perfect and just like the day you both fell in love, but rather the growth – the journey of you two consistently getting closer to one another, and together closer to God. And so remember to keep your faith in him and know that he won’t bring you to any situation that you both cannot arise from. But that does not mean there will not be tough days, heart breaks, challenges, and anything else in God’s will. But it is through his will that your union will grow stronger and your love will triumph!

Junior and I share parents. I’m the one who got in trouble when he misbehaved. He’s the one that almost broke my back with the Walls of Jericho. His eyes are in my eyes so I can’t see but when you see him know that it’s we. (LOL I can make this a normal answer but this is what came to mind first lol. No one will understand lmao)

I am looking forward to EVERY moment of celebrating Junior + Jasmine’s union. I’m especially looking forward to standing by Junior’s side as the Best Groomsmaid and seeing his reaction as he watches his beautiful bride walk down the aisle.

Submit to one another daily out of reverence for the LORD.

Hernz is way more to me than just a friend; it would be hard to summarize our 20 years of knowing each other as just that…he’s family, he's my brother. When I married his sister, gaining him as a brother-in-law was one of the best blessings to come from our union.

I’m looking forward to it all , but I'm truly excited to see Junior and Jazz embark on this new phase in their relationship with style and creativity. They always bring class and innovation to everything they do, so I’m looking forward to the subtle surprises that they throw at us throughout the day.

As someone who's been married for four years (I'm practically a pro, right?), of the things I've learned, the first that stands out is the importance of self-care and prioritizing your mental health in a relationship. Taking care of yourselves individually is like adding fuel to keep that fire burning. It goes a long way in balancing your relationship. So, don't forget to take yourself out, pursue your hobbies or passions, make time with your friends and indulge in some guilt-free self-care. I think relationships thrive when both of you are feeling happy and balanced. Above all though, continue to cherish each other deeply and authentically. Your love is a testament to the strength, beauty and resilience of black love..

Hernz is the type of friend that I’m grateful to call my brother. We met at Syracuse University and bonded over our love for poetry, deep conversations, and music. Throughout the years we always make sure to catch each other up on life and maintain our brotherhood. I’m grateful to know that I can always lean on him and he knows he can always do the same with me.

I’m looking forward to my brother stepping into the next chapter of his life and to turn up and have a great time during the ceremony and reception

I’m wishing Jas and Hernz a beautiful marriage and partnership. I’m excited to be a witness on their day.
